Buddhist Lent restaurant recommendations

Post by TicTac »

Hi all,
Just hoping for some recommendations for restaurants selling food and alcohol over the next 2 days. Any suggestions except the usual 5 star hotels?
Thanks

Where to buy alcohol in Hua Hin on 30/31 July

Post by Ren »

Does anyone know if the bars are going to be open tonight? Someone said it's all closed due to buddha day.
Or I'll be forced to go to the hilton or bintybum.
Thanks,
Ren

all alcohol sales prohibited everywhere in Thailand today and tomorow.

i was in a bar when the police handed out the notice. all the bar girls were happy because two day vacation. 10,000 baht fine and six months in jail for owner of business.

same same every year. but lets see who is still open :)

i would go look tonight but heavy rain here.

edit: i guess big western hotels are selling.

Bring your own bottle with you. That's allowed. Maybe you will have to pay for corkage.

Most restaurants will be open as normal but the majority probably won't be serving alcohol, your best bet if you want alcohol with your meal would be to stay away from the centre of town + night market etc and head to a small place out the way, on the outskirts or outside of town.

It's probably not a good idea to name places on a public forum that are going to be flouting the law!

Yeah, and you won't see anyone riding a bike not wearing a helmet either. Illegal!

Of course many restaurants will be selling alcohol, surreptitiously, but for obvious reasons, they can't be named on open forum.

As far as I understand, the police would have to prove that the bar/restaurant sold you the alcohol you were drinking. Stock answer - "I brought my own drinks" sets them with no options.

very bar in Khao Takiap is closed. The restaurants down here that you can see into from the street are not serving alcohol. I looked at about a dozen. No bottles on the table. too much rain to go to HH.
