This is strange — Possibly somone’s crystal ball has leaked and the genie has escaped. If I ever stumble into somthing worth advertising I would consider ฿17 per day very reasonable. But I have been completely retired for so many years and my realm so limited by a wheel chair that the only thing I possibly have to advertise is that I am not dead yet. Because some people can hardly believe it.

I am definitely not affiliated with any business, and do not personally know anyone in HH who is. Except monkey business.

But if somone does not like or approve of my post why can’t that person be uprite enuf to say so and tell me why — so I will know. That would be reasonable, and constructive

[Mod comment: the post was worded like an advertisement so was treated like one, however we don't always get it right.]

Hey, good idea dtaai-maai You kick in ฿8:50 & I'll kick in ฿8:50 and we can publicly celebrate one more day on this planet

Anyway, will try this again. A lot of us probably remember all the ฿99 Sunday roast dinners that used to try to put each other out of business up & down Soi 102. There was even a free one, in hope you wud come early enuf to get a table so that the drinks wud support the meal.

Just last week I learned that one of them still exists. Don’t know the lady’s name or previous place but she moved a couple years ago to the soi between Soi 88 and Soi 94 food courts. “99 Cafe” GPS N12.5587 E099.9550. Still does a ฿99 Sunday roast dinner - Yorkshire pudding etc - after 1:00PM and there were plenty of MT seats after 1:30 or 2:00. Not the Palm Bistro but close by and looked patronized by a lot of regulars which is the kind of place I like to seek out.

฿99 meals other days too but closed Monday. No Thai food on the menu but she has western, middle east, vegetarian, & breakfast and I was told she will cook Thai food if u ask for it.

Hope this doesn’t look too ‘commercial’ but just want to put down the kind of info I hope for when looking for a place

By coincidence, my wife and I ate there a couple nights ago. I had a Mexican plate, chicken enchiladas, and my wife had fish and chips. These were a bit more expensive than the 99bt dishes but the portions were large, food was delicious, atmosphere very pleasant and we both enjoyed our meals very much ! Haven't tried the Sunday brunch yet but look forward to it in the near future. I was also impressed that they serve western breakfasts all day long !

Thot of another one. This one goes way back in the cobwebs to before the Hua Hin Macro opened. And surprisingly it still exists altho I have NEVER seen anyone else in there except Mrs Hinley & me.

There were 2 Scandinavian guys in Hua Hin who opened a mail order computer hardware & accessories business called ‘invadeIT’. And if you know where they were at that time you will know where this place is. invadeIT still exists too but has moved to somplace else. Any way it is a nice clean little air conditioned place to stop and have a plate of Thai food for about ฿50 or ฿60 after shopping at Macro. Its so Thai they even still put pitchers of water on the tables and bring you a cup of ice cubs. Until a couple years ago they had a fridge full of canned & bottled drinks but that is gone and I think maybe now the total drinks menu = water laced with ice = free. And free is a very good price.

After you leave Macro you have to drive north under the arch then make a U turn to return to Hua Hin. After making the U turn you will be driving south, back to Hua Hin. Maybe just 50 meters or so before passing under the arch again, on the way back to Hua Hin, keep looking to your left. Their will be a concrete driveway or soi that exits off the hiway in the form of an S curve to a white 2 or 3 floor apartment building, maybe 25 meters off the highway. It is the last place you can exit off the hiway before passing southbound under the arch. invadeIT used to occupy a room on the ground floor of the front of that building. And so does this place. There is no sign or anything else announcing it is there and no way to even realize it is there until you are entering their door.

It is run by a couple of young girls and we used to stop in there to eat before or after invading invadeIT or while waiting for that guy to show up. Once I remarked to him that I felt sorry for those girls because altho their food was good and priced really low I had never seen anyone patronizing their place so didn’t understand how they cud survive. He said, “Oh don’t worry about those girls..” as there is a school somplace nearby and they get a lot of business from the students. Possibly so but we have never seen anyone else eating there and we stop in almost every time we go to Macro - about twice a month.

If their principle patronage is students that explains that their prices have to stay low but it is a decent place to stop for a bite to eat too. My favorite is a dish of tofu swimming in a light gravy with vegetables and a side of rice

Maybe I should have pointed out that a reason we have never seen any other customers at the no name place near Macro is that in addition to its invisible location we have always been there at times when their more usual customer base would be in school.

Another place, at the upper end of cheap, frequented by repeat local customers is the ‘Family Restaurant’ about 6k up the Pala U Road. Exceptional because where else will you find an open front Thai restaurant with menu items like cordon bleu, pene carbonara, and others that are not normally expected at modest Thai eateries. Everything we've had there has been good and most of their western meals are like ฿100 - ฿200. Except a ‘Family Mixed Grill’ at ฿600+ but large enuf that it should easily feed 3 homesick and hungry Kiwis or Australians.

But my XYL (YL = young lady) is so hyper cautious that no matter how exotic or appealing the farang food is she usually hangs with Thai choices. And one time complained her food was too salty. Waitress took it away and XYL said what was brought back was really good. I suggested to her later that maybe it tasted salty because the cap fell off the MSG bottle. So now, no matter where we eat out she always asks for no salt and no MSG, and no complaints since then. But for people who are paranoid about MSG it might be of interest that you might get it even if not added as it is already in many Thai sauces and soy sauce, salt too.

If you go past the train station the Family Restaurant is 6k from there and is on left side of Pala U Road, on a corner, across from a big 7/11. And is at the near end of the road widening project. N12.5720 E099.9060. A bit out of town but worth it.

I don't agree. whether you spend 2000baht on compensated companionship or a fine dining experience its up to the individual. Both have their merits and deserve a review on the Forum. What's next for the chop, only chat about the cheap golf courses ?

DUN DRILLIN--of course people can spend 200b for dinner if they wish, my point is that ALL you read about in those publications is this kind of deal. ONLY in the forum do you get tips about how to find delicious food for less than 200b.
Byb the way did you all see, the Michelin people just 'did' S'pore and awarded a star to a few selected street hawnkers. Michelin rated fod in a styroform containerat low cost.
