There may be some truth in what you say. Their website has gone. The building signed XXL kitchen looks like it's doing business. It was certainly still open in April according to their facebook page:

Dear customer,
XXL Kitchen will be open on Songkran Holiday from 9th - 17th April 2016 and will be closed on Monday & Tuesday, 18th -19th April 2016. We wish you a Happy Songkran Holiday with your family. See you at XXL Kitchen

Had a great burger at Bon Apetite on Soi 80 last night. Oat also mentioned that from the 5 th of October every Wednesday the soi will become a walking street. There will be live music, food and drink promotions. I think he said that all the bars were doing 3 beers for B150.

In praise of a hamburger

Post by HarryVardon »

Although I do not eat many hamburgers, there is one in Hua Hin that I find extra special. I have just eaten one today and I still have the delicious taste in my mouth. I am talking about the "Danish Trucker Burger" at the Little Mermaid in Soi 94. It is served on a very nice grain bun. It is a large, good quality beef patty covered with salad, 3 sorts of onion, sauces and beetroot. The whole burger is then covered with a delicious dark gravy. It has to be eaten with a knife and fork because of the gravy. They have a very good menu there but I often choose this burger as it is so special.

We can hope an outlet for the below will open In Hua Hin in the future. Outstanding burger, and great selection of types shown at the link. Long Live the Mighty Smashburger! :thumb:

Did anyone here visit the XXL restaurant at the top of Soi 10 back in the day.
I think their largest burger had a couple of kgs of meat but with a price of around 1200 baht.

Have you tried one Pete? I've seen there vans around Bkk and I was in Central World on Saturday and they have an outlet there. The ones I saw looked good. Checking the menu though, too much mayo for me, but that can be excluded.

And from looking at their website, I have just realised I have passed one several times, without even thinking it was part of this group, or any group come to that! The one in Thonglor. Its only small, so I just assumed it was a local Thai place. I am up in Bkk next week again, so will definitely check them out.

Had many times from the Soi Buakhao shop in Pattaya, which is much better than the Central Festival shop, which seems to make them nice, neat and non-sloppy for their Bangkok Hi-So shoppers. No soul in them from that shop.

The way they almost burn the meat on the edges I really like. Gives it a world of different flavour.

Of course my favourite is the New York, but the other 2 marked as "Best Sellers" are very good as well.

Okay, thx. I will definitely try one next week.

Nott sure about the London burger though. No bacon? But bacon jam - what the hell is that? And whilst I love jalapeno's, hardly a London thing.

I’m sure you can find other explanations (some may be slightly contradictory) but basically they’re the same!!

They are the same. The beefburger was invented in Hamburg hence the name hamburger. Similarly the hot dog was invented in Frankfurt hence the name frankfurter.

Those claims believed to be true by most but are disputed by some.

Hamburger, beef burger…whatever you want to call it; who eats it anyway? This thread should be titled “Best Cheeseburger in Hua Hin”. Who eats a burger without cheese? That’s like eating a ribeye or filet mignon cooked well-done. And really, I know the menus in all the big burger chains in the US have a hamburger listed on their menus, but I can’t remember the last time I heard someone actually say the word ‘hamburger’. Kinda sounds old-fashioned. Everyone just says ‘burger’ or ‘cheeseburger’ now.
