Coco 51

Tried to book at Coco 51 but it was closed for the Noise Festival, so we went to Dukes just opposite. Despite reserving they had not heard of us but found a table anyway where we waited, totally ignored, for 25 minutes. All around us other diners were complaining of late food, wine served halfway through a meal, and wrong bills. We left.
On the walk back to the town centre we decided to try the Blue Orchid. That they had a French chef shone through, the food was fantastic, the service calm and efficient. Although not the cheapest in town I would recommend this place to anybody for value for money. We`ll be going back next month with the family, and looking forward to it

I was not even sure where Coco51 was located until we ate there for the first time last week and were very impressed. Friends treated us and so we never got to look at the bill, which was no doubt on the high side what with wine and cocktails and all.

The service was first class. (Waiters who knew what they were doing and excellent service standards. ) The place was fairly full when we were there so they are managing well in the low season . .unlike those poor folks along Naresdamri opposite the Hilton! ( Dukes was also deserted while Coco was having a good night of it.)

I had a salmon linguine which was just superb! I dont know the nationality of the chef, but he/she knows how to cook European food . .and the Thai dishes the rest of our party had looked just perfect as well. Everybody was happy! Our table was right on the beach side and the musicians were just the right touch. Unobtrusive, excellent variety of light music ( I was impressed by "Moonlight in Vermont". . . how did they ever know my home state?)

I certainly recommend it and I hope to return.

Another more everyday kind of place we have happened upon recently and have come to like a lot is Backyard Steak . .along Petchkasem so a bit noisy. All you can eat buffet. 159 baht, nice family running it.

Thank you for your enquiry. We do not have a scheduled buffet as our experience suggests that most people prefer to eat a la carte from our extensive menu. As and when buffets or special events are to take place, we will post the information on this forum whenever possible.

If I bring a doggie bag with me I am sure it will feed me for 3 months

We are staying at the Hilton next month and want to try Coco 51. Is it within walking distance and if so how long of a walk is it? Thanks.

It's not that much of a walk - 15 minutes maximum. If it's too hot to walk, just pick up a TukTuk outside the Hilton - it won't cost much.

Have you seen their web pages?

Make sure you book. They are often full to the gills. Also I always try and reserve a table near the beach

Excellent fare that put most places in HH to shame :thumb:

Same experience made.
Was there new year eve 2008/2009 because coco was full.
We waited at least 20-30 minutes before we was noticed by the staff (restaurant was about 50% busy).
After we got our menus we waited another 10-15 minutes before one of the staff members came to make the order.
I have to say that we saw only 4 staff member running around, but it was new year eve!!!
Normally for an restaurant of this size minimum of staff for a day like that would be 10-15. I know that, because i owned a restaurant years ago in germany.
Then we wanted to place our order. Unfortunatly the waitress didnt speak a word english, so it was really hard to explain some extra wish to her.
We asked her to get a staff member who could take our order in a reasonably way.
Guess what.... We waited about another 10 minutes....
So, in a half booked restaurant we waited about 1 hour before we ordered.
In this time we didnt have anything to drink. I made the suggestion to leave and go another place, but my 2 friends told me to give them a chance.
Ok, then after we made our order, about 30 minutes later our food came, still no ordered drinks served.
We started to eat. Not all of us, one dish was still missing.
After 5 minutes waiting, our friend who still didnt got his food, told us to go on before it was cold.
So we started eating.
He tried several times to tell the staff that one dish was missing, but we was totally ignored. Still NO DRINKS SERVED!
After me and one of my friends finished eating, the other friend finally got his food, but he was pissed off, so he refused to accept.
He was still arguing with one staff member, as our drinks came.
I refused to accept the opened drinks, as i waited at least 1 1/2 hour for my drink, on new years eve.
We asked for the bill, and guess.... We waited about 30 minutes to get an bill WITH the non consumed dish and drinks.
We noticed all around us people complaining, my friends was really angry. We called the manager, after waiting another 5 minutes, we left the money for the consumed food on the table and just left the restaurant.

Weird experience, really!

We are pleased to announce the opening tomorrow of our new restaurant - Mekong Cafe. Located immediately south of the Market Village on Petchkasem Road and formerly known as Madam Nu.

We will be offering a menu of selective Thai Asian cuisine, with dishes from Vietnam and Laos. Dishes will include authentic ingredients from the Mekong river and area, as well as from the various regions of Thailand.

We aim to reproduce the same high quality of food and service that we provide at Coco 51.

We look forward to seeing you at either of our restaurants.
