When Have You Ever Got it 'Wrong' in Thailand?

Post by GLCQuantum »

(Apologies to slow responses and e-mails. I've been off the grid for a week or two)

The topic in question could fill a few novels for myself! I thought about it tonight when I got a situation completely wrong.

A fair few drinks had been had. Enjoying the company of my father along the beachfront, with a rare day off the following day, I was employing an 'I couldn't care less how I feel tomorrow' attitude. On the way home I get a few cold ones for the fridge too.

As is expected with a young reprobate like myself, I thought I'd go out again (after said few cold ones were gone) to 7-11 to top up before the ol' damning midnight hour struck. Along the way, down 114, I'm doing my best Cantona kicks to fend off all the feckin' street dogs along the way. They're not 'really' going for me... they're just bloody barking and yapping within my vicinty.

Finally, I get to 7-11. Lo and behold... there's only a policeman sitting there on his bike. Tanked up to the eyeballs and frothing with the rage of a westerner who has had to deal with rabid stray dogs pestering me, on a personal level, for the past 2 years in Hua Hin, I calmly walk over to him and, in my best street Thai, say something along the lines of...

GLC: Are you a policeman?

Policeman: Yes.

GLC: Well you are a f*****g joke. Have you seen the amount of f*****g street dogs around 114 and 116. But you don't care, do you? The police couldn't care f*****g less about the dog problem around here. You just cant be f*****g arsed to work can you?

With that, I shake my head in disbelief and walk, fists pounding my chest, into 7-11. "That will show him. Bloody idiot"

Well. Said policeman waits for said mouthy farang in question outside. I can see him waiting as I'm paying for my vodka. He's waiting to to spout some rubbish to me, surely, about how I need to respect him and his kind more.

(all in English now)

Policeman: Excuse me.

GLC: Yes

Policeman: I'm sorry but we have no control over the dogs. You need to call the Tessabahn. I wish I could help but I can't... I'm a policeman - we don't have control over the dog problem in Hua Hin.

GLC: (sheepishly and apologetically) Oh, I'm really sorry. Well, if it's not your job then ... (I start walking away with a high wai pointing in his direction)

How I got it wrong?

I drunkenly confronted a person (policeman) who wasn't responsible for the problem.

So... When did you ever 'get it wrong' in Thailand?

The cop was too nice. He should have arrested this clown instead of letting him back out onto the road with the possibility of killing somone like you or me

It does not matter - you were drunk and obnoxious in public and cussing at the cop - and sound like you are still drunk

Your original claim was that I was drink driving. False.

Now, even after my obvious apologetic ending to my OP, you're trying to twist it into something else.

Idiot.

Ignore him - it's another one of his drink/drug fuelled hallucinations.

BTW -GLC, don't bother sending me another PM as I don't open them.
Good luck in Harrogate :D .

So glad you're back Nanyang.

By the way, didn't you fleece taxpayers out of loads of money by declaring yourself unfit to work after having sex with female prisoners under your care. Made the front page, no. Broken man...?

You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself Terry. Wouldn't be surprised if you were another Jimmy Saville the way you talked about women.

Well done...

Pedantic much. Heard of typing errors?

Edit: We are not on either a teaching forum nor a writing forum so when you come up identifying little typing errors, for the people who do use the aforementioned forum(s), you come across as a right twat.

Wonder how it would go down calling a copper in Harrogate a fu#$^ng joke?

I had a good friedn back home who also came to live in Thailand . Wouldn't say boo to a goose at home, great lad back then.

He came to Thailand and suddenly became a smart arse thinking he was all mighty and above the law.

Not sure what you think gives you the right to confront a policeman with arrogance and language like that.

Credit to the policeman for not setting your foul mouth straight.

Isn't this the guy who taught in Samut Sakhon? A last resort for those who can't get a job anywhere else. Glad he never taught my son, and never will. A dickhead with a drinking problem, no friends, and poor grammar.
And isn't he going back to England? Probably leaving because of his qualification status. A loser returning home with his tail between his legs! Good riddance!

^^ a tad harsh. He already admitted that he got it wrong. Jeez, have you never done something, in haste, that you later regretted?

That was the point of the thread!

I was thinking I had got it wrong, but I was wrong, I wasn't wrong, so I was wrong about being wrong. It was wrong as I had got it right.

Sorry, my mistake.
