European victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami and bereaved family members of the dead are filing a lawsuit against the Thai government and other authorities.
The plaintiffs are 60 Europeans mainly from Germany and Austria. They filed suit at the New York Federal Court on Friday.
Their attorney says they are blaming the Thai government and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for failing to issue a tsunami warning quickly enough after receiving details about the situation.
They are also seeking relevant information about the hotels the victims were staying in at the time.
They intend to seek compensation only if professional negligence of the accused is proved later.
