Hua Hin promises `paradise'

Hua Hin _ Two months from now, visitors to this seaside resort town in Prachuap Khiri Khan will enter a ``paradise'', officials say.
All buildings, old and new, along Phetkasem road will be repainted in cream colours under Hua Hin municipality's plan to turn the town into a ``paradise city'' to mark His Majesty the King's 80th birthday in 2007.
The King's summer palace is also in the town.
Provincial governor Kittipong Sunanan, Hua Hin municipal mayor Siriphan Kamolpramo and other senior officials yesterday kicked off the town beautification scheme.
Sixty per cent of the paint needed was donated by TOA Paint (Thailand) and ICI (Thailand) Co.
The municipality bought 20% and the rest was donated by other private sector firms and local residents.
Mr Siriphan said a meeting had been held earlier to listen to views from local people about which colour should be chosen. Most favoured cream which they said would make buildings in the town look fresh and bright.
The repainting is expected to take two months with the municipality responsible for undertaking the work and all expenses incurred, said the mayor.
Local residents welcomed the municipality's move to repaint the town.
Niran Rung-itthiwong, owner of a commercial building on Phetkasem road, said he was willing to cooperate with the municipality in repainting his building as it would make the town beautiful. He suggested the municipality renovate pavements as well.
Nipa Ninsiri, a resident, said she was happy with the town's plan and proud to be a Hua Hin native.
She was confident that visitors would be impressed.
