I doubt that it has anything to do with "entertaining Thais", or anybody else for that matter, it is purely a marketing theme to attract customers to spend money.
It may well have an imported "theme", but if you bother to look at the construction there appears that there will be dozens of shops. It looks like it is going to be a Mega shopping center, not an amusement park!
Any shopping center that provides better facilities than that revolting, overcrowded Market Village deserves to succeed.

Yes. It is on a 44 rai plot with many shops. My partner was offered a space there and we declined, reasoning it would not do well unless in a prime location, facing the gondolas. Rents were also too expensive.
Any shopping center that provides better facilities than that revolting, overcrowded Market Village deserves to succeed.
Interesting comment. What facilities are missing? Weren't many of us pleased to see it open?

I can't help thinking my thoughts of sitting having a relaxing few hours of Peroni & Pizza by the waterside with my son of a weekend is gonna more resemble the scene you get at the likes of Plearn Wan, with the constant procession of sightseers shuffling round a circuit or two, stopping only for retarded photo ops for Facebook. With no-one actually sitting down and using the place and it's amenities.
Just watched the video and all the 'characters' shown in it are doing exactly what you fear!!

The world is full of replicas, why should Thailand be any different? I've enjoyed visiting Chinatown in both London and Bangkok (is that ok? or does that need to go too?). The mini Eiffel tower in Prague was a laugh, too.
Hua Hin is a holiday resort, there's always going to be holiday resort things like this. There's plenty of other places far far away you could move to if you don't want to be anywhere near tourist destinations...
ive seen the plans for this today its going to have maybe 3-400 shops and stalls including a villa market and 20-30 restaraunts ,it is exspensive nearly 20,000 baht for a 12 m square stall
How many times in one day can the bus driver stop-off to let his passengers out to check the next 'new' HH shopping expirience??
He's got them to the 'Big buddha' for 8.30am, now to fill their day he's a choice of 2 floating markets (3 very soon), Black sheep farmy-place Nr B.B., 'Swiss Sheepy-place' at Cha Am, 'Little Hua Hin' (provides bus-parking opp. Queen's School on Pekky-Rd). Makro Nr the airport (kidding!).. hope you can feel for the poor driver as he's to work out which venue offers the best 'kick-backs' for him..
Since the experts have spoken, I know I am in for a lot of grief here and I am not sure why I am even bothering . .but I LIKE the new Venezia project and I LIKE it very much. Besides that it will offer amenities out here to the north of town like banks, decent supermarkets and a wide selection of restaurants it is beautiful . . .precisely because it is copying something beautiful. For the naysayers . . would you really rather another Market Village or other cheap architecturally featureless shopping mall? As friends in western countries have noted when I posted pictures . ."It sure looks a hell of a lot better than the big box malls we have here!"
I have been to Venice. Many times. I have been to the Venice casino in Vegas . . many times. I like them BOTH. I have walked around our "Venezia" and I like it VERY much already. Not sure about you but I cant afford to travel to Venice, Italy every month or two for a shot of the real thing. Like a postcard or picture book, or a travel movie. . .a copy is a pleasant reminder of the real thing and like the real thing, the architecture, the proportions, the decoration are beautiful. They are doing a FAR more careful job of it than they need to and than I ever expected. Take a look at the "Doge's Palace". They have adapted the original but done so with great care and attention to detail and what they are producing is really beautiful. I have taken many pictures now and compared them with the original and I continue to be impressed. Visit the site. Just see it before condemning it.
I am not going to get into the whole "Hua Hin is changing & I hate it" discussion or the discussion of who it is for or who is or isnt going to go to it when it is done. The developers are going to develop their hearts out here in HH and there is nothing we can do about that except, in my case at least, rejoice that they have shown considerable care and taste and a remarkable attention to detail in copying a place (Venice, Italy) that I have always admired and considered beautiful. I expect I will be there often once it opens.
I also live on the north side of HH and think that it will add considerably to people living on that side of town. Just being able to visit Villa market and a few restaurants, on weekends, without the driving through town will be a major bonus
