Venice comes to Hua Hin
Re: Venice comes to Hua Hin
Getting back to the OP regarding "floating market" type attractions. I have not been impressed with any of the floating markets that I have visited in Thailand until I visited "Amphawa" a few weeks ago. Crowded yes, but good produce and had an authentic feel to the place.

Yes I'm sure the Thai resident said just that.... I hear Thais saying 'Rich Brats' all the time you know.

If he did, I'm afraid he's got it wrong. The two floating markets are there for rich Thai girls to show off their boyfriends and their fluffy pooches.
Come on guys, who gives a damn anyway? If you don't like these places, then simply stay away from them.
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Judging by the size of this construction, any resemblance to a "floating market" is just ludicrous. It has to be the biggest single construction site outside of some Government gin palace in Bangkok. The clock tower alone should tell you something.
I cannot read Thai but one of the signs erected at the front is an advert for Villa Market, with what appears to be advertising for staff. Anybody know if Villa Market are moving to this site, or is it going to be a second outlet. Whatever, and whoever, it is shaping up to be one huge shopping precinct.

Venice is Venice
What a revolting idea it all is. Maybe it will attract a certain amount of customers. Think they should have themed on Moscow, Oslo, Munich, Stockholm, Helsinki or Bern
Having said that, is it farang customers they are after or Thai Hi-so's? If the latter it should then surely be themed as Beijing. After all Thais have Chinese ancestry and China owns a lot of Thai land too. True?

Just to remain authentic they should be sure to have five cruise ships dock nearby all at the same time and inundate the place with baseball capped Elmers and their waddling wives.

Been there and got the movie
Been to Venice a few times and met Yanks and their waddlies who were 'doin Venice' in a day

Gonna be a bit tricky that one Arc... Hua Hin's 'Venice-by-the-sea' is actually on the mountain 'side' of the PetchakasemArcadian wrote:Just to remain authentic they should be sure to have five cruise ships dock nearby all at the same time
To be fair to the place 'if' it ends up anything like the promotional vid... it could turn out to be a decent, attractive enough alternative to the usual bland, uninspiring modern day shopping/entertainment complexes. Big 'if' of course seeing as it's just sales gumpf...
I personally think it's a great concept to transplant a classic slice of European culture into Asia, but only, obviously, if it is done right. We shall see. I can't help thinking my thoughts of sitting having a relaxing few hours of Peroni & Pizza by the waterside with my son of a weekend is gonna more resemble the scene you get at the likes of Plearn Wan, with the constant procession of sightseers shuffling round a circuit or two, stopping only for retarded photo ops for Facebook. With no-one actually sitting down and using the place and it's amenities.
Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised

GOOD GRIEF. If you want to see Venice, go to Italy.
Fer heavens sake, when in Thailand, see Thailand.
This town is being turned into another Disney amusement park.
Stop this insanity.

Relax, Lung Per - I'm sure it will be a very easy place not to go to.
This is really nothing to do with foreign tourists (or residents), it's to entertain Thais.
On the plus side, we'll probably be moving up that way soonish, so it will be nice to be able to have a Villa Market close to hand.
