I was into Swampy and was in the downstairs food court not so long ago and my guess that a couple of planes had landed not only from China but Russia as well (?). Honest to Gawd you needed a whip and chair to have handled that mob. The yelling and pushing were a sight. The disgust of the staff in the various food stalls was plain to see.

Upon leaving I felt like I need a a good washing up!
twice I have had similar in Thai airports, this year in the smoking lounge in BKK Suv airport, I was the only non-Chinese in that particular smoking lounge ... the behaviour, the noise, the lack of basic manners, the littering, the spitting, the screaming at eachother.... would have put any half-addict off for life.

The year before In Phuket airport, I was in the business class lounge and an elderly German gentleman who had stayed in our hotel approached me and asked (practically begged) in very broken English if I would accompany his disabled wife to the smoking lounge as she was "scared" to go alone and they had so much hand luggage that he couldn't go with her while carting all the luggage. I didn't get the scared bit but was happy enough to go along with the old lady. My god. That lounge was hell on earth. I could totally understand why the old German lady was afraid. It *was* intimidating.

I brave smoking lounges in every country I travel from, they are never "nice" places, but I usually manage at the very least 4 cigs in 3 hours. The 2 examples above I made do with a few puffs of 1. And I relate completely to your feeling of needing a good scrub afterwards. The big ashtrays.... (heave) .... was covered in spit... except not normal spit.... the green gooey globby kind. Absolutely vile experience. Literally nothing on earth holds me back from smoking. "Where there's a will there's a way" is my motto. But a smoking lounge filled with Chinese tourists I have now discovered is the first sure fire way for me to leave the cigs in my bag !

Yesterday my wife turned from Bangkok via the Dusit Thani sprinter. A group of Chinese tourists were in the van. They were all married and each person was sitting by themselves and had piled all their goods on the seat beside them. When asked to make room for other passengers they loudly complained, made faces and in general, to use an old U.S. southern expression; "showed their asses." These are the people who will one day rule the world.

You know that there are 1.3 billion of them. This is just th estart of the Chinese Tourists, each year it will increase. They like 'set pieces to get out and look at, HH has those statues and the water park but not much else, that might just save us. RGeir tour groups can be HUGE, 200 on 5 buses, just a couple of them could have an impact.

Venezia could probably use the business. But hopefully the photo attractions around Cha-Am will serve as a buffer, stopping them before they get here.

It might also be interesting to see the hordes descend on Huay Mongkol, though I wouldn't want to be there at the time. It's more of an amusement park than a Buddhist Temple anyway.

I hope I arrive in Swampy when the nice airlines all arrive, I am also glad that I will be picked up
by my Thai family so I do not need a taxi to get me to my place of rest. I have only seen the
restaurant area when I flew domestically from Swampy and thankfully it was mostly Thais and
Europeans and Western people who were there, the crowd was friendly. I did have some time
in Beijing and Shanghai airports and I do agree that there are some Chinese people that I would have
rather not seen, the spitters and gobbers and smokers, but the worst were all the nose pickers.

A friend tells me that he saw a HUGE crowd of Chinese in Vancouver airport sitting in a circle on the floor eating and spilling food in a carpeted area. When they left a crew from airport house-keeping came, picked up all the trash then roped off the area and steam shampooed the carpet.

Fortunately, this hasn't come to Thailand yet, but it's close.............

Chinese tourist kills an endangered bear with a machine gun 'out of curiosity'

A Chinese man who killed a caged and endangered black bear with a machine gun claimed that he did it out of curiosity during a sightseeing tour in Myanmar.

The man said he shot the bear dead after having gained permission from the government in Myanmar's Wa State, which borders China, according to Beijing News.

The man, whose name has not been revealed, also claimed his weapon had been provided by the local government.

An expert has identified the bear in the video to be an Asiatic black bear, an endangered animal species.

TAT expects 300,000 Chinese tourists during Lunar New Year
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects 300,000 visitors from China during the Lunar New Year holidays, a nearly 18% rise from a year ago.

During the same holidays in 2017, the number of visitors from China was hit by a government crackdown on budget tourism and the mourning period for the late king.

Tourism accounts for about 12% of gross domestic product, making it one of the most important drivers of growth. The biggest number of foreign visitors come from China.

Chinese tourists during the Lunar New Year period, which this year begins on Feb 15 and lasts until Feb 21, will "generate about 8 billion baht in revenue", Santi Chudintra, a deputy governor at the (TAT) told reporters on Monday.

In 2017, about 255,000 Chinese tourists visited during the Lunar New Year.

The Tourism Ministry said last month it expected this year's tourist arrivals to hit a record 37.55 million, with 2.1 trillion baht spending.

Chinese tourists, who accounted for nearly one-third of last year's record 35 million arrivals, are expected to rise this year to around 10 million from 9.8 million.

The country has become increasingly popular with Chinese tourists in recent years. The country is also home to one of the world's largest ethnic Chinese communities.

In late 2016, Thailand launched a crackdown against "zero-dollar" package tours - an arrangement where tourists pay for everything upfront and in theory spend nothing while in the country. The tourism ministry said the campaign, which ended in 2017, was a success.

All sounds ghastly. Glad I won't be anywhere overrun by the hordes of 'zero-dollar' tourists and their ilk.

With the influx of passengers, he advised outbound travellers to arrive at least three hours before normal time, while domestic flight passengers wound need at least two hours or else they could miss flights.

He said that during the 14-day Chinese New Year period, there will be a total of 14,700 flights, or 1,055 flights a day, up 3.5%.

They are a nightmare, not just in Thailand but everywhere the buggers go, they do not comprehend queuing, they push past you and are generally rude.

Yes all countries have 1-2 dickheads but they they seem to have 1.299999999 billion,

Hua Hin should be reasonably safe as it is more expensive than most parts of Thailand

Probably controversial, but IMHO that description would fit the French as well.
