Suvarnabhumi Airport to be ready for use in 180 days

Post by Norseman »

Suvarnabhumi Airport to be ready for use in 180 days.

This is the new international airport in Bangkok.

Published on Dec 28 , 2005 by The Nation.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said Wednesday that he would inform all airlines that the Survanarbhumi International Airport will be ready for use in 180 days.

Thaksin was speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting the committee in charge of developing the airport.

He said the airport would be officially inaugurated on June 20 but the exact date has yet to be confirmed with the Royal Palace as His Majesty the King would be invited to chair the inauguration ceremony.

He said most major constructions at the airport had been completed and there were only final finishes on small works, all of which should be done in March.

He said shops inside the airport compound would be completed in May.

The prime minister said the government would not yet go ahead to expand the airport in the second phase as it has yet to consider as to when its current capacity of receiving 45 million passengers a year would be met.

About a week ago the Bangkok Post was reporting that the latest scheduled opening in June was about to be delayed again and that this time next year was more likely. But if Mr T says it's June......

There are no leaks in the roof.
There are no cracks on the runway..........
I've run out of steam on this one. But there's just one question -
Can they build Wembley in time. Dosn't seem likely.

True lomu, but here you can at least follow up the progress via the web-cams surrounding the stadium.

They do have some picture collections from the airport site in Bangkok, but the latest pictures you'll get is from September.
Take a look, quite impressive. http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/index.htm

Chalk and cheese. Wembley is being built by an Aussie private firm which keeps running out of cash, whereas Suvarnabhumi isn't. The end result is that both will be ready when they're finished and we can look forward to another cup final or two in Cardiff.

BTW - what's the current state of play with Hua Hin airport? The website says there are no commercial flights at the moment - I thought it was up and running again, so to speak.

As far as I know they're up and running.
4 flights pr day between Bangers and Hua Hin.
The route is serviced by a Cessna 208B Caravan aircraft, with a seating capacity for 12 passengers. 40 min. flight.
Run by Siam GA.
