How can the Thai authorities allow a ship to be abandoned and lay anchored and unmanned for so long, the ship should surely have been towed to a secure location and regularly inspected to ensure safety.

Yeah unbelievable an unmanned vessel won't be insured and can drag its anchors in high winds. You would think the Royal Thai Navy would pump the fuel and lubricates off of it and tow it out to sea and use it as target practice.

I think that you can assume that whilst not having anyone onboard it was not abandoned and that there was a payment being made by the owners for it to bet at anchor in Thai waters.!!!

Thank you but:
I wish that were true!

I simply "smell" that the owners were probably given permission to anchor the ship for a charge.

Probably we will never know.

35265 tons

Surprised some mom and pop setup, hasn't already eyed it up and have ordered a few hundred oxyacetylene bottles and a pedalo boat, to cut it up for scrap.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

According to the following link the Thai authorities were in contact with the ships Chinese owners, a slightly different report than the first report. However just as with the larger oil spill some time ago the truth will never come out
