I'd assumed that there was some historical background to this temple but apparently they only got their first tiger in 1994 and following that, the place was rapidly turned into a money-making tourist trap.

Tiger Temple 'slaughterhouse' discovered

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/crime/1 ... discovered

KANCHANABURI - Authorities found four tigers in a well-fenced property in Muang district on Tuesday and suspected it might have been used as a slaughterhouse by the Tiger Temple.

Police, soldiers and national park officials searched the nine-rai estate, No. 222 in tambon Wang Dong, and found the four tigers aged 1-10 years in separate cages.

There were several houses in the compound, as well as two other empty cages, big freezers, knives, tiger food storages and equipment believed to be used in tiger transport.

^ If what the press is asserting is true, this entire Tiger Temple org was a scam and cover from the very beginning. Hiding in plain sight is an appropriate thought. The list of payoffs to certain authorities must have been huge over the years. I would love to see the ledgers, every crook and gangster keeps them. Why I don't know as stupid, but they do. Maybe their books will be found and published, I hope so. :( Pete

When it comes to temples accused of major wrong-doing then it seems now to be par-for-the-course for their abbotts to claim illness and deny everything. It is sad that the men in orange here have gotten into all forms of temptation with little remorse/regret and are in the news all the time for the wrong reasons.

Using the word 'monk' or 'abbott' in the same sentence as billions of baht, wildlife trafficking, Mercedes Benz, drugs etc. is simply an anathema and an afront to Thai Buddhism. The clergy here needs sorting out and putting back on the straight and narrow.....or risks losing respect.

As an aside, the Tiger Temple abbott is either complict or incompetent...either way, he should be defrocked and dismissed. However, as usual, seems the law is not applied with the same vigor in some sections of society as it is in others.

Hope all these tourists that went there (Tiger Temple) read the truth about the cynicism of it all and that they helped perpetuate it for years.

Don't even get me started on the fraud monk that swiped 1.2 billion and the farce that has played out since then......

A complete embarressment to Thailand. :|

2,000 animals at Tiger Temple 'starving'

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... e-starving

KANCHANABURI - Staff at the Tiger Temple has asked for food donations for the remaining 2,000 animals after authorities moved its tigers, leaving it with no means to raise money for their feed.

Staff at Wat Pa Luang Ta Maha Bua said there were no visitors after the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), by court order, relocated 147 tigers to several breeding centres... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Some photos at the link. I very much doubt that the cattle shown in the photos have got in such poor condition in such a short time.

Checking the assets and bank accounts of the head monk, all his family and friends would be a start. Then check how much the place has sent in "dues" to the head office. Pete
