Despite many cryptic contents the new security guard prescence appeared to be working well. However, today, Saturday, the security guard crossing attendant is gone and the free for all of crossing the road at MV is back on again.

Use your brain and don't trust 100% to a security guard. He is a human and can make a mistake.

Indeed. Not to mention totally unqualified for the job and has no authority over motor vehicles on the road. I've upset many a security guard by staying put while he's been blowing his whistle and trying to wave me into the path of a vehicle that's pulling onto the main road from some establishment or another.

We all must realize that drivers/riders in Thailand will not change, at not least in the near future. The only way to avoid an accident and injury is to take care of yourself, you cannot rely on traffic lights, traffic police, road signs, or other drivers/riders in Thailand.

Keep your eyes open, stay off your mobile phone even if it is hands free and pay attention everywhere.

Indeed. The trouble is, while most of us using the forum do understand that zebra crossings and pedestrian crossings are ignored by motorists here, the average tourist here might not. This is the danger. Whenever I have a visitor planning to come I always send them an email with safety information; but how do you educate those who are coming alone and unprepared?

There is no way to educate or prepare someone who does not prepare themselves. Anyone travelling anywhere these days needs to do some research and find out what things are like. Articles on Thai roads and drivers are all over the web and even on government web sites.

Good for you on advising visitors but really the onus cannot be taken off the traveler.

I travel regularly and to some pretty hairy places, I never fully rely on information provided by companies I am visiting I do my own research to protect myself.

They have it all sorted out now there in front of Market Village with a new and improved "safety first" method of crossing the road. A couple of bins on each side of the road hold a few poles with a red pennant attached and pedestrians are to stick that thing out there when they get ready to cross.

Good luck to all that may want to have a go.

It's planed to have the traffic light crossing manned by two security guards. One from the InterCon side and one from the BluPort side to try to ensure a safe crossing. Let's see how that will work....

IMO one significant reason why the pedestrian crossing outside MV is so dangerous is the mini van bus stop on the south bound carriageway.
