Samsam ? I don't know that one, but a Google search suggests that it's in that maze of bars on the landward side of the Hilton - but that's more like 250m than 50m though..

Not a good turn of events, but as a show of defiant solidarity, I shall book the tickets for my next trip tomorrow.

It's all over the world press and news media now. Some reporting as many as 23 injured and one lady dead.

The BKK Post mentioned that the double explosion was similar to bombs down south, the second to get curious bystanders and first responders. They also mentioned it is a few days before the 1 year anniversary of the Erawan bombing.

Lots of papers have mentioned that it's identical to the twin bombing that goes on in the south. Don't really see any other connection with the southern unrest. The target is not usual for the insurgents who tend to go for the police and the military.

Time was 10 and 10 20, probably optimum time if you are targeting the farang.
In spite of what they say , the only Thais in the area at night are people working there, very very fewThai customers in the bars. Mostly farang. I do not remember a previous bombing that targeted farang .
Cant doHH any good, people havea long memory for this sort of thing and as other posters have noted, it is all over the western media.

Might have nothing to do with the problem down south. It might be the result of unhappiness among a currently defunct political party. They might be using the Queens Birthday in his majesties town as an opportunity to show that the army is not able to protect Thailand from terror attacks. They did not do it today because the bars are closed for her birthday.

Blue Monkey is very much a younger people's bar and could have been chosen because of how quickly and effectively reports would spread within social media. RIP the Somtam lady and a speedy recovery to all those caught up in this. I think it could be a difficult high season again this year.

Where is Blue Monkey, is it near JW bar, if so not thebusiest area

Yes, but actually it is one of the busier bars, a bit like Click. Being tucked round the back a bit might have made it easier to plant the devices.
