Hua Hin to install more cameras

Post by buksida »

he Hua Hin municipality plans to install more CCTV cameras in public areas following the multiple bombings in this popular seaside town last week.

Hua Hin mayor Nopporn Wuthikul said Tuesday the municipality had a 60-million-baht budget for purchasing new high-resolution surveillance cameras.

The governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Tawee Narissirikul, and local security authorities had approved the plan and urged municipal officials to proceed quickly.

Officials are discussing the camera specifications and will seek advice from police about locations at which the devices should be installed.

Mr Nopporn said there were 60 high-resolution CCTV cameras at 20 key spots across Hua Hin and they had helped police solve several crimes and catch criminals. But they were not enough and more are needed on several major roads, as well as minor roads or alleys in residential areas.

As a result, the mayor said authorities could not find recordings of pre-crime incidents and track the suspects before they showed up at the bombing sites to hide the devices last Thursday and Friday. He believes the perpetrators had targeted the spots with no cameras.

Do you remember a few years ago--Dramatic announcement, HH was going to be the first place to have FREE city wide WiFi. A generous budget was allocated anda few routers were installed along the main drag. The word was that someone ran off with the budget, the routers were not maintained and in a year it was all over.

Agencies concerned have integrated their security measures for both locals and international visitors in Hua Hin resort area of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the Upper Thai South.

Thai News Agency (TNA) reports this includes the installation of more than 700 high definition (HD) close-circuit televisions (CCTVs) across the seaside district.

Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police Chief Police Major General Krisana Jamsawang on Wednesday said the intensified security measures also include heightened intelligence and patrol surveillance missions, as well as more checkpoints set up on all main roads leading to Hua Hin.

"All areas in Hua Hin, including tourist sites, business areas and communities are covered by the integrated security measures", stressed the provincial police chief.

For CCTVs, the provincial police chief said, the Muang Hua Hin Municipality plans to install another 680 HD CCTVs, in addition to the existing 60 CCTVs.

Besides, the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has approved another budget to support local tourist police to install another 94 CCTVs in the heart of Hua Hin, bringing the total of the newly-intalled CCTVs to over 700 with their installations set to begin later this month.

According to the provincial police chief, if any suspicious item was found from now on, an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team and supportive officers would be immediately dispatched to the scene from the Naresuan Military Camp to inspect the object and handle the situation.

The integrated move follows an unprecedented bombing attack in Hua Hin earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Thawee Narissirikul presided over an event to present financial compensation to family members of two killed victims and 17 others injured in the bombing attack on Aug 11-12, totally funded by the Ministries of Interior, Justice, Social Development and Human Security and the Prime Minister's Office.

Seeing as you can't go anywhere anymore without someone waving a smartphone around filming everything, they may as well put CCTV all over and be done with it.
