Teacher accused of maiming pupil ousted

A schoolteacher in Nakhon Ratchasima accused of throwing a mug at a 17-year-old student, allegedly causing a facial nerve injury, has been transferred.

Chukiat Wisetsena, director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 31, said Paithoon Klaengkratok, 58, has been moved to office duties.

Mr Paithoon is a physical education teacher at Chokchai Samakkee School in Chok Chai district.

The transfer came after Pranee Jodsanthia, 48, accompanied by her daughter, Narudee, who suffered facial feature distortion after Mr Paithoon allegedly threw a mug at her, brought the issue to the media's attention.
A disciplinary panel against the teacher was under way Wednesday. A result is expected within seven days.

Student Somsak Kakrathok said Mr Paithoon threw a ceramic mug at Narudee and other students. The teacher became angry when students stood up to avoid sunlight during an outdoor class on Aug 8. The mug missed other students and hit Narudee's face.

Speaking at a press briefing at the hospital, its CEO Supot Sumritvanitcha said Narudee's muscles on the left side of her face were unresponsive due to a nerve injury caused by an object hitting the base of her left ear.

Ms Narudee and her mother lodged a complaint with Chok Chai police on Aug 9. Later they decided to seek help from the media after the police investigation failed to make headway.

This is another thing that fits in the thread opened by VS. Why the hell have the police not done anything about it? Even in this twisted country, it appears to be a clear case of assault. Just like to see what would happen if he did it to any kid of mine. :guns:

They should see a lawyer to take the case up against him in civil court

It now appears that the Police have charged him, but not before the case became public.

Naruedee to move school, away from mug throwing teacher

The teacher has been charged by police with physical assault causing injury to his student.

Miss Naruedee has been taken under the wing of the Pavena Foundation for Women and Children and is in Bangkok awaiting the results of tests by doctors at Yanhee Hospital, which has offered to treat her deformity at no charge. She suffered facial nerve damage when struck by the mug.

If any teacher did this to one of my kids, the police and the courts would be the least of their worries. In fact, I don't think I would even bother reporting it to the police. :cuss:

This is incredible. While this type of thing exists this country will never move forward. Just hope that Paveena Foundation can bring enough pressure on to see that the police charges progress. And these hypocrites call themselves Buddhist!

The 58-year-old teacher who maimed a 17-year-old schoolgirl's face in Nakhon Ratchasima province has been found guilty of a minor disciplinary violation by an inquiry and faces a possible salary cut.

The finding was announced by Chukiat Wisetsena, director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 31, on Friday morning.

But the BIB have already charged him with assault, or so it's reported. The BIB dragged their feet for a while but because of the publicity, he's been charged.
He should be fined, pay compensation, do some jail time and NEVER get a teaching job again!

The report says he's a physical education teacher. But the picture on the bangkok post didn't give me the impression that he'd be any good at it. Or perhaps he just teaches theory without actually partaking. Anyway at 58 he'll be retiring soon. Sooner the better!

The mugging of Narudee

http://www.bangkokpost.com/opinion/opin ... of-narudee

Long article..........................>

The (literal) mugging of Narudee by her teacher is well-known to everyone who didn't just return from a long trip to an outer planet. She might -- might -- recover, thanks to the media, Yanhee Hospital and especially Pavena Hongsakul. (Who is arguably the most-demeaned person who has done the most for girls and young women in the past century.)

Corporal punishment in schools is illegal under the Child Protection Act, specifically by the Regulation on Student Punishment issued in 2005 by the Ministry of Education.

But wait, there's more. That law does not simply and narrowly ban corporal punishment. It bans all employees, at all schools, public or private, specifically but not only including teachers and directors, to apply any form of physical abuse.
