Cabinet approves bid-free observatory

Post by PeteC »

This is one to follow as it's going to turn into a real pissing match. Already associated stories and editorials I'll list below. Does anyone see any "Thainess" in the design of this tower? To me it's ugly and I guess is meant to resemble wicker?...or a baseball bat stuck into the ground. Pete

A few years ago they came up with the idea of a "Bangkok Eye" like London has. That was active in the press for a few months and then disappeared. Perhaps this new idea will also.

Thailand is trying so hard to develop a new identity that they apparently forget that they have one of the most attractive historical and cultural identities in the world which is a main draw for tourists. If they keep razing historical structures, clearing river waterfronts of traditional housing to make walkways, banning vendors from the streets like so much rubbish, they will be left with a sterile unattractive city/country with no identity, and few tourists.....IMO.
