Another one! Low season and these boat operators use less common sense than usual when trying to make money. This is a Breaking News short report. I'm sure more detail later....................

Safety first as always! These island dive operations are a little yee-haa tbh...along with many other operations in tourist areas, including even hotels.

Yes, and it really isn't the tourist's responsibility to check sea conditions, weather reports and the boat's engine oil level. They rely upon the operators to take care of these things and decide safe or not safe, and that's the way it should be everywhere, even here. Honestly, if TAT wants to do a great service for visitors coming here, they should tell them they need to be more vigilant with EVERYTHING. Phi Phi island hilltops will have glaciers on them before that happens though. Pete

Not a small boat and not a large boat, but the seas must have been unusual for it to have the problems it apparently had. Their website (below) only has a photo of this one boat and they talk in the singular concerning boats, so this must be it. They present themselves quite professionally in comparison to some other companies we've read about. Perhaps just bad luck on the day. Pete

Are these boats flat bottomed? If so they should not be out in any kind of wind/chop.

I can't tell from the photo and don't know enough about boats to guess. I'm sure someone will come along who knows boat types here. Pete404cameljockey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 9:24 pm Are these boats flat bottomed? If so they should not be out in any kind of wind/chop.

It has a very wide beam compared to its length. But it also has a very low transom and could very easily take on a big following wave which could easily flood the hull. May be flat bottomed, or shallow draft. Also a high cabin area which is prone to catching the wind.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
