Marijuana decriminalization activists Tuesday hailed news that cannabis will be grown legally for the first time in Thailand, possibly in the northeast.
Rattapon Sanrak, founder of a group that advocates for cannabis legalization, said that although reported plans to build a plantation in Sakon Nakhon province aren’t a done deal, officials have taken positive steps by going ahead with the project.
“I think it will certainly help build a positive image,” said Rattapon, who heads a group called Highland. “Apart from image, it will help the patients. And if they can distribute it to farmers, instead of letting several corporations have a monopoly, it will also help farmers to have more revenue.”
Word of a possible construction of a 5,000 rai (800 hectare) facility comes months after drug authorities confirmed plans to legalize cannabis for medical purposes, though health officials said Tuesday that they were yet to be informed about it. No time frame was given for the plantation to open.

Ain't gonna happen. Does anyone really think that the military mindset will allow this. Does anyone really think that the po0lice will give up their source of illicit revenue?

Marijuana could be legal by year's end
The National Legislative Assembly's (NLA) public health committee vowed Tuesday to pass proposed amendments to the Narcotics Act to legalise the growing of marijuana and kratom for medical research purposes by the end of this year.
Dr Jet Sirathraanon, chairman of the NLA's public health committee, made the statement after an NLA brainstorming session on them.
"We will accelerate the deliberation of these amendments so that we can complete them before the end of December. This will be a New Year's gift for all Thais," he said.
Proposed by a group of 44 NLA members, the amendments that will change the classification of marijuana as well as kratom (Mitragyna speciose) and allow their use for medical purposes has so far received overwhelming support from the public.
A total of 16,431 people have responded to an official online survey, 16,288 (99.13%) of whom supported the proposed amendments, said Somchai Sawaengkan, an NLA member.

Well, the end of the year has come and gone and I haven't heard any word of the passage of the medical marijuana law. Anyone else heard anything?
Re: Thailand to build first legal weed farm
It was passed on Christmas Eve 166-0 with 13 abstentions. Many articles from various sources, just search "Thailand medical marijuana". As vallies and xanax can still be aquired here over the counter (after being outlawed 8-9 years back), you can bet your left nostril that cannabis oil will be available too.

Jan. 1, 2019 is the latest on the internet. It's the usual Thai screw-up; the equivalent of it being cold outside but you're only allowed to wear a glove on one hand and the govt. decides which hand. This place is so tiresome.PeteC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 21, 2019 1:47 amIt was passed on Christmas Eve 166-0 with 13 abstentions. Many articles from various sources, just search "Thailand medical marijuana".
