What the authorities ought to be looking at is how the hell can such a "minor" injury result in a 300,000 baht bill. My guess is that the bill would have been less that 10,000 had he been taken to HH Hospital.

I personally think it is disgraceful that places like Bkk Hospital are allowed to rob people blind with no restrictions/checks at all.

There's nothing wrong with making a profit, but daylight robbery is a different matter altogether.

Yes, I read elsewhere that the 300,000 Baht bill was accrued in just 4 days at Bangkok Hospital.

[Edit] I wonder what % of that was spent on educating the 'medical experts' on the difference between a scrape on some coral and a shark bite.

I think, sit to be corrected.
How did they know that he was out of the country for more than 3 months ? Did they check his passport ?
Unless there was something very unusual going on, when he took the policy out, he would have had to specify the start date. The way I understood it, the policy was already older than the 3 month period it was valid for, based on the start date for the validity of the policy.

Makes sense also. Just noticed when reading an article, stating out of country for 3 months, and assumed....oops, it was some kind of gov't thing where if not residing, then void. Never did the travel ins. thingy, so haven't a clue how works.

Either way, should have gotten bit earlier......555

Govt pays Bt67,000 to Norwegian shark victim
Around Thailand July 04, 2018 17:35 By The Thaiger

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30349307

The Thai tourism ministry has paid out over Bt67,000 to a Norwegian shark attack victim who was injured on April 1.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports paid 54-year-old Werner Danielson, who was bitten on the leg near Hua Hin, before he flew back to Norway on Sunday with his Thai wife.

However, due to a problem with his insurance running out, the payment still leaves him more than Bt200,000 short.

His three-day stay in a Hua Hin hospital cost Werner Bt300,000. The payout came from a Tourism Ministry fund after consideration by a committee.

Meanwhile, deputy governor of Prajuab Khirikhan Chotnarin Kertsom said that a shark prevention net at the Sai Noi Beach in Khao Tao district would cost Bt500,000.

Discussions are ongoing about installing a net three months after the attack.

Apparently they are installing a shark net at Had Sai Noi. Hua Hin administration, responsible for preventative measures, are forking out 400,000 baht for a 300 meter long net, 50 meters out at a depth of three meters. They will start on September 20 and take five days to complete the job.

But of course there'll be no money to maintain the net which after a few storms will be rendered useless. IMO it's not needed anyway!

Found a new way to scam tax baht. Wonder what politician's friend got that contract, and the one to maintain or replace the net after every storm.

Hua Hin completes laying shark net off beach

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Hua Hin authorities have finished installing a shark net off the beach where a Norwegian was attacked during his swim five months ago.

Jeerawat Phramanee of the Hua Hin Municipality Office said a company commissioned to install the net at Sai Noi beach at Ban Khao Tao finished the job on Thursday at a cost of 400,000 baht.

The net was erected at a depth of three meters covering a demarcated area of 50 by 310 metres from the shore. It was equipped with buoys to alert boats going into the area and blocks only big fish from coming close to the beach.

Hat Sai Noi in Hua Hin district is the first beach in the country where a shark net has been set up.

The demarcation of the safe swimming zone was mooted after Norwegian Werner Danielsen was bitten by a bull shark while he was swimming off the beach in April. A survey in the location later found more of them.

Officials drew a lesson from Australia which installed shark nets off its shorelines to protect swimmers.

Hat Sai Noi resident Boonsong Tempiem said tourists could now swim safely near the beach. She hoped the net would draw more beachgoers to her village to boost income.

Thanyamas Ketkaew, another villager, said the net would also save swimmers from poisonous jellyfish which sometimes hurt tourists on the beach.

So they drew lessons from Australia, well they didn't learn very well did they or the nets would still be in place. Apart from that Australia is now in the process of removing nets as they are not the best solution.
