7-13-2004; I Re-post, You decide...

No news is good news? Usually not. Just usually a time when something else is overshadowing everything else; and that would be the 15th Annual AIDS conference (see yesterday's post(s) for background info). Anyway on the conference front, the big story seems to be condoms vs. abstinence. With idiots on one side saying, "If we tell them to stop having sex, they won't spread HIV..." And the other side saying, "#@*%, people are going to have sex, educcate them and give them condoms." Either way read CNN's coverage here.

The other banner story for Thailand would seemingly be the re-emergence of Bird Flu (the avian virus H5N1). Birds are again being culled, but thus far in much smaller numbers than the previous outbreak. Malaysia, China are also reporting limited cases. Full story here.

IN BRIEF (Business) Thai SET is up slightly in mid-day trading mostly on selective retail stocks. Foreign/international buying conspires to hold the index at par. China is going to have a bumpy ride - which would of course make most of Asia's ride a little shaky... But highest growth will remain in Asia...

IN OTHER NEWS: The Philippines appears to be signaling that they will nehgotiate with terrorits and that thye are considering pulling out troops to free a Philippines national from captivity and beheading. More here.

Finally, from the 'can't possibly be true' file today, I found a story early in research today that cited Tony Blair as one of the sexiest heads of state. Hmmm, I agree the picking are thin but... Anyway my vote goes for Queen of Jordan. Sorry I lost the link on Blair, didn't think I'd post it when I ran across it...

What do you think? Want to know about something? Did I miss something? Post a message...
