Ui Tom, I like Kata a lot... what's a beach!!! Last time I was there in July the area was under construction, rebuilt the road and surounding houses. They have a boring Danish restaurant there where you can ask for snap and Dansk food...

There is a Paradise beach (or Private beach, can not remember the name) in Phuket, which you have to cross a small moutain to reach it. It'll be cool to take a walk to reach that small rocky beach. having lunch in the only restaurant, play with the funny swing... That's kind of cool too.

he he I talking blab blab off the topic already. But I do like Phuket for the reason you can take your scooter around and do some small adventure on your own. Umm..,. I want to go there again soon in a season of "small wave". Last time the RED Flags were everywhere... and the waves were so violent, I lost 1 part of my bikini when jumping into a crazy beach heheheheh
I'm adorable crazy ! :-)

why in the name of all that's holy do you rat bastards slam Cha Am so. It's not Paris but for a day at the beach it beats the shit out of HH. For those still reading here's the skinny from devine intervention. Cha Am is a beach town, hh is not. There's one way to get to hh beach area, down Burger King road. Now ca has a great beach road, about 4 miles long. To the right is parking under tree's and small cute shack huts you set under. People come up to you and sell all kinds of food or right across the street are a bunch of good resturants. They will bring food to you. Eat , drink and be merry. Also besides resturants there all kinds of stores , hotels and open bars on beach road. This may not be a place to stay on vacation but it is a very nice beach time. God rest Brian's soul.

bill - I think you are right, although both are beach towns; Cha Am can be a very nice change every once in a while, but while the beach is OK, it is not as nice as the better parts of HH beach. Incidentally there are other access points to HH beach all the way down from the King's Palace section, with a break for the fishing piers and restaurants, and then many of the sois from there on lead down to the beach all the way down to Khao Takiab, most notably the soi immediately after the Marriott. The big difference is that there is no 'Beach Road' running behind the beach in Hua Hin, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing as it makes the beach much safer for children. i think Cha Am should actually lose some of the beach restaurants to make the aspect a bit more open when approaching the beach, as well as clamping down on the hawkers, because when you are sitting there you are constantly turning them away, much more so than on HH beach.
I have to add though that I think Brian and the Boys would probably choose HH over Cha Am - they were party animals! But then again they would probably choose neither - the surf ain't good enough!
