Any nice pub-style bar to eat and chat with locals in Cha-am

Post by thebears »

I was just wondering if Cha-Am has a nice pub-style place where you can sit at the bar, have a drink and some food in the evening, on your own, and chat with the other regulars.

Looking around Cha-am I can't seem to find anywhere that's alright. The bus soi has some pretty awful looking places that don't look like they do food. The rest all seem like restaurants, but sitting down alone at a table in a restaurant most nights isn't much fun at all.

It seems that Cha-Am is very Thai, especially at the weekends.

Does anyone know an alternative within the town? Thanks.

It sounds like Chaam Pub (former Crewfords) would be what you are looking for. Especially on the nights where they have live music.
Here is a google link to the place: https://plus.google.com/105918222766481 ... l=dk&hl=da

The Paradise Bar at the top ( North) end of the beach road is quite popular, and if you like darts they participate in the Huan hin / Cha Am Leagues

Thanks very much, it looks alright. Is it not Crawford's any longer?

I remember going in there a couple of years ago and they weren't doing food, so I never returned. I tend to go out just to eat and have a natter with people.

Thanks a lot musungu, do they do meals in there? That's really what I need - that and some locals to chat with. I'm beginning to waste away! ha ha

We were there towards the end of last and had a very good meal at a pretty reasonable price, I remember

This is really a restaurant so may not be what your looking for, although you get quite a few farangs in there. Head towards the beach from the main traffic lights and just before the beach road there are crossroads. Turn right and there is what I think is a German or Swiss restaurant about 50 metres or so on the right - cant remember its name but the feature to look out for are the dozens of clocks in there, a number of them striking, so quite a noise when it gets to the hour time. The food is very good at reasonable prices.

I've been there a few times, it's called somewhat unimaginatively 'Aroy' but the food, both Thai and Euro is really quite 'aroy'.
Big bottle of Chang is only 45B I think and the Thai food is cheap, the Euro food isn't expensive either but Dannie Boy is right, it's not really a bar it's a restaurant. I felt that portions (of Thai food) were much larger during the week than at the weekend.

In accordance with BB's demands here are the co-ords. 12.793718,99.981551
It's on the same road as what was Crawfords / Cha-Am Pub.

If you have chronomentrophobia stay well clear, if you don't have it you might develop it quite quickly especially if you go later at night when there are more 'ding-dongs' on the hour.

Aroy opens after 10 am of a morning and they do a decent bacon and egg breakfast too. Their coffee is generally pretty good also.Always had good service from the staff.

What a surprise that is seeing as it is in Thailand!
And you might find that most of the "locals" don't go to pub-style bars.

I agree Aroy is a very good restaurant. Weekdays may fit what you are looking for. I've seen people eating, then staying on for drinks and chatting.

Weekends they stay pretty busy so maybe not so good.

Probably don't need to say this (but that's never stopped me before) but if you hang around a restaurant for a lengthy time drinking after the meal, I feel it is correct to leave a large tip for utilizing the table for extra long

+1 for Chaam Pub, Aussie managed, great food, great prices - very professional.
