Made the mistake of going to Cha-am for the day today.
Not only was half the population of Bangkok there but the smart traffic control people decided to shut off half the roads. Once we'd fought our way through rows of double parked SUVs and found the beach we were pretty much hawked to death from the start.
The deck chair mafia demanded we pay for all the seats even though we occupied less than 50% of them. She then proceeded to charge us for the plastic cups we were to drink our beer from. Apparently its also more expensive for farangs to visit the toilet than Thais, maybe our urine is more acidic and eats away at their pipes quicker.
All aside we got pleasently pissed so not a bad afternoon.
Verdict Cha-am: Shithole.

Well I think the lesson to be learnt here Buksi, is that if anybody wishes to go to Cha Am for a day then my advise is:
Travel there by boat.
Drink your beer from a bottle. (Remembering of course to return bottles to Hua Hin for re-cylcing so that the Mafia do ot get their 6 Satangs).
Take a shooting stick so that you do need to rent a deck chair.
Piss in the sea.

And they charged your son (who's just over a year old) for a deckchair. He spent almost the whole time sitting on our laps or in his pushchair.
Initially, the prats were trying to charge us for all eight deckchairs around the table, although there were only four adults.
Then again, it might have had something to do with my shirt - which did resemble a deckchair. Maybe they thought I was trying to nick one?

Actually we love the bangerosians, their cars and their traffic behaviour.viking escort wrote:Halloooo!
Cha-am isn't that bad. Just don't go there when the bangkokians go there;
We simply love their style of regional policy and polite manners.
What we don't like is the short distance to Hua Hin.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
