Wat Cha-Am Kiri (Wat Cha-Am Cave)

To find this temple, as you drive North from Cha-Am, follow the road, past the flyover over the railway, then look for the entrance of the temple on your left.

When you get into the temple grounds, parking is more than adequate.

At ground level, there are various temple buildings, including a quaint wooden temple. However, that is not what I was here for. I wanted to find the staircase to Wat Cha-Am Cave. There weren’t any signposts, so I explored the base of the mini-mountain.

I found the staircase, and it was probably the best ‘cave staircase’ that I’ve found in Thailand. The height of the stairs was variable, but very safe. I counted the stairs – only 115.
There was a big clue that I'd found what I was looking for.

When I got to the top, my initial reaction was, “Where’s the cave?”

However, I went through the gate and the cave entrance was on my right.
Oh, there it is.

It was only a small cave, but a cave it definitely it was; and it housed numerous Buddha images. Then leading off the main chamber was another smaller chamber housing a reclining Buddha.

As I left the cave, and was about to start my descent, I noticed another smaller staircase/pathway, so I thought I’d better explore. The path led to another ‘semi-cave’, which I look through, and see fantastic views beyond. There was a back staircase leading down from the other side of the cave, which I didn’t bother with.

A lovely, reasonably easy to access cave containing Buddha images. I’ve been within 800 yards of this cave numerous times, and didn’t even know it was there. Well worth a visit.
