Go down a notch to mid range hotels and you may be lucky. If not, avoid check in until after dinner commences.

Cheers, which mid-ranges ones do you recommend?? Some of the high end ones are quoting up to 8000 per head!! Nuts. Is this just HH that is asking these prices??

Last year we stayed at Baiyok sky hotel in bangkok which on their web site and on Expedia web site had included New Years Eve gala dinner for additional cost for around 2500 baht(just for dinner). So we call expedia if we can get the room without gala dinner, Expedia said yes, so we had Expedia make reservation for us. Some time if you call hotel directly and request that you don't want gala dinner, sometimes they will do it for you.

we had Expedia produce booking for people like us. Some time if you telephone resort right in addition to ask you do not wish gala supper, occasionally they will practice it in your case.
