I think the top floor has gone. Seen JCB's or equivalent up on the roof. As BB said it is more like a demolition job. Rumour has it Le Meridian are putting up a high quality hotel in it's place

Oh that is so sad. My first week in HH I stayed at the Marriot. Back then it was very nice and I had a splendid time.

A quick update on this project, I looked in the other day and at last there is progress on this site. Construction work (as opposed to demolition) is at last under way.

Two new buildings being built close to the roa. From the beach view, it appears no work on original buildings, now gutted.

Is it Marriott that is opening/constructing a new resort on their old premises?

Firstly, I would say that whatever it is that is happening is at least a year away from completion.

Secondly, I think (maybe earlier in this thread) the hotel was only leased by the Marriott.

When larger constructions or rebuilds are undertakeh the developer will sometimes create a miniature display of what it is going to look like, or rather who ever pay will let it make, in order to marketing the result. Has anyone looked around to see if this exists somewhere? Thinking of it I will check out the Meridien Website to see if they have announced an upcoming opening in Hua Hin. I was wondering whether they plan to upgrade the beachfront after BB published the picture from his beach walk.

Plane tickets booked for July btw, now it only remains to book for Sunday Roast the the Palm Bistro :)

Checking on the internet I found no trace of Le Meriden planning to open in Hua Hin, However, the group Starwood Hotels seem to own both Le Meridien and Sheraton world wide, so as investors in Tourist business they have both Sheraton Cha Am (HH) and a bungalow Resort in Pranburi. The latter I was not aware of whilst you locals surely know of it, the former as I recall is next to Dusit Thani.

Drove past there earlier today, and work is really underway. There's also an artists impression of what the new place will look like at the entrance - looked very nice, but didn't have chance to have a proper look. I will get a photo if I go that way again soon.
