Arriving by train (Maybe)

Post by jubaka »

I am planning a trip from Sinapore (arrive there Feb 13) to BKK and beyound. After finding this site, I would really like to stop in Hua Hin for a few days. Problem is, from what I can tell the trian stops there at 5:30am. Not to particular where I stay, have looked at several of the Guesthouses mentioned on this site Goanna's, Catwoman and others and they look fine to me.
So, what to do at that time of day until I can get a room.
Also not really sure what day I will get there. Any one have ideas to my small problems.

PS great site

hi
i am sure where ever you stay will be flexable on arrival time
what time do you land in bkk?
a taxi to hh from the airport will only be 1500/2000 baht or even the bus all depends on your arrival time in bkk though
good luck and enjoy hh

Hello jubaka and welcome to Hua Hin.
I guess you're talking about Singapore. From S.pore to Hua Hin by train!!
I would prefer to have a go from Changi to Don Muang, but I hope you'll have a nice trip on the rails.
Hua Hin is well awake at 5:30 in the morning. You can eat and relax until the guesthouses wakes up.
Try an email to : goannasguesthouse@yahoo.com and see if they have a spare room for you.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Beat me to it, Norseman. The trains are usually fairly punctual, but by the time you get your bearings and get near a guesthouse, it'll be knocking on 6.30am anyway.
If nowhere's open, just sit somewhere and have a feed for a while.
Alternatively, mail ahead with your arrival time as suggested.

One thing to keep in mind, Feb 13 is a Macha Buddha day and the bars will probably at least be seen to be closed. However if you do as Norseman and Lomu suggest you will probably find a guesthouse willing to have some-one around to open. Most of them have a 12 Noon checkout, but if the room is available... or at least you'll have some-where to drop your bags and have some breakfast.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

One of the Great Railway Journeys of the world. Ignore these people with lack of imagination who can only travel on airplanes.

The train gets in at the early hour because its is timed to arrive at Bangkok at a resonable time.

As stated before make sure you avoid holiday periods.

The train is harldy ever on time so things might not be so bad. The early morning Thai eating houses start opening about that time.

Make sure that you have a firm booking with one of the guest houses mentioned and i am sure they will accommodate.

I hope you are aware that you will have to change trains at KL and Butterworth unless the Malaysian schedules have changed.

Thanks for all the help

First let me thank you for all the help and info.
I arrive in S'pore on the 13th and depart BKKon the 28th. Between that time, everything is an option.
So it there a holiday during that period, I was hoping to miss Chinese New Year?

You've already missed it.
There's nothing during those dates on my calendar, except the Buddha day on the 13th as already mentioned.
I've no idea of Muslim holidays though which'll make Malaysia busy if there are.
