Boomtawan design center

Post by migrant »

Doing some renovations on a older house so was shopping for household fixtures this past weekend.

Homepro has never thrilled me, but do like Thai Watsudu and Big Kiang, but limited items (haven't tried Global House yet)

Went to Boomtawan and was pretty impressed, Price ranges from cheaper to expensive, top of the line items. Higher, of course, than Watsudu and Big Kiang, but considerably more selection. Prices seemed better, on average, than Homepro and Index.

Staff very helpful without being pushy, and a fair amount of knowledge shown.

Any other suggestions welcomed!

On the opposite side of the road to Boontawan is a Haffele (sp?) store that has a small showroom and variety of oddments on display, although a lot has to be ordered. Prices vary considerably but some of their items are quite competitive and like Boontawan, the service in my experience, has been pretty good, certainly worth calling in if you're in the area.

A bit out of your way, but in Cha Am there's a store called Homemart which is a chain but there isn't one in HH. It's smaller than Homepro or TW, but when we built our house, we bought quite a few items from them - good service.

Incidentally, if you're at Boonthavorn and are feeling peckish, they have a nice local style open air restaurant in a little park through that archway at the back.

Homemart is more for construction materials, tile, paint etc., than plumbing, fixtures, electronics etc....right? Honestly I've always bypassed them where I live when searching for a water heater, stove etc., given the piles of sacks and pallets of tiles and other heavy items sitting in the front lot. You're right Pete, but amongst our purchases from them included the toilets and some shower fittings, probably more but the memory is fading and I would need to check my spreadsheet to find other non-construction materials, but as Migrant said he was going to build a house, he'll need construction materials as well.

I have not been in the new local Global House shop, but I do use one in the north from time to time, and they have everything and then some.

We have just built a house and used Boonthavorn pretty much extensively. Their kitchen design centre was excellent ( far better than Cabinet for example (IOO) The bathroom tiles and kitchen tiles plus bathroom / toilet extras was very well priced and excellent quality. Anyway I suggest you give them a very serious look. What the contractor does is another issue!

When we built our house there was nothing in Cha-Am or Hua Hin. Nearly all our building materials came from Homemart in Tha Yang (it's a big one) and Homemart in Pranburi (closed now I think). We went to Boontavorn and Homepro in one of the Samuts just south of Bangkok for appliances and fittings Homemart did not carry. Homemart in Tha Yang had the best prices, selection, and service in building supplies from roofing tiles to kitchen and bath fittings south of the Bangkok area in those days.

Cheers, I will check out Boontharvorn next time too.

We just bought a bunch of stuff to build a outdoor kitchen from HomePro after half the stuff we wanted wasn't in stock at Watsudu or it was more expensive.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned experience with Global House. From what I have heard from those who have dealt with them up north, they just blow the socks off most of the others. They have everything I have been told.
