Container Home
Container Home
Does anyone know if there is a contractor who builds, designs or sells shipping container homes in Hua Hin.

Re: Container Home
canthai I don't know of any in Thailand, maybe because building a house in the LOS is comparatively cheap. I have seen them used in The UK on various, award winning projects. A 40ft container here in UK costs around £4k plus transport and you would need at least 3, to make a small house.
I saw on TV recently in UK, a chap put one on a flat concrete floating pontoon moored in a canal boat mooring.
He cut of most of the long front side, fixed in folding doors and kitted it out with bog, kitchen, bedroom and power etc.
Trouble was, you could not swing a cat in it!
The containers in Thailand, would, because of the high temperatures there, need at least 100mm insulation on all external walls and roof, possibly applied on the inside and under the container roof, thus decreasing the internal space.
Then you would need some type of eaves and insulated roof structure, (if you don't want to be deafened and kept awake at night when it rains), also cutouts for doors and windows to be fitted, plus some good air-con units.
A concrete hard stand to site them, ownership of the land, or at least permission to site them there. Also sewerage, power and water supplies would need to be installed. I would have thought that it would cost a fair bit and you would still be living in a noisy oven.
Back in the 80's, one of our companies was building parts of a couple of universities in Jeddah and Daman.
We shipped over units in 87, open topped 40ft containers (because the units were higher than could be shipped in standard containers and had to be placed on the very top of the container stacks on the ship) that were written off when they were emptied on site.
Our agent on these sites, sold them off to contractors, who turned them into accommodation for their Indian employees.
Basically, they turned them upside down, slapped in some louvered windows (no air con) and rented them out to their employees!
The French have just erected a refugee camp in Calais made out of these containers, painted white, some of them double stacked.
I am intrigued as to why you would want to have a home made out of containers in Thailand.
Do you have experience of building with them elsewhere. Any plans you could show us?
Good luck in your quest, let us know how you get on.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Re: Container Home
If I'm not mistaken, containers are being adapted at a building site just before the Cha'am turnoff from Petchkasem Road. The site is close to the sheep and camel attractions on the left side of the road, a minute or two before the turn to Cha'am.
Re: Container Home
There is a place on Rama 2 / Hwy 35 on the left side going towards Bangkok. It is about 60 Kms from Bangkok, if I recall correctly north of the salt flat farms. I think that they mainly fit them out as site offices, but would probably custom fit one to what ever you need. Wherever you find one you will be up for both transport, and probably a crane hire to offload it where you want it. They may have a "Hiab" type of truck crane, or a contractor that delivers them.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Container Home
There's a company called SKC in Bangkok that sells container homes. I'm using them to building a container office at present in Ubon. From their website the container homes look okay.
Re: Container Home
There's already a hotel made out of containers in the area, I've seen this place advertised in the office where I get my car insurance:
Hua Hin In Boxes

yes and many business in HH are containers buildings. soi 53? burgers has a nice building and the Thai "Race" bar next to the race track between soi 94 and 88 is really nice. harley davidson place on up by soi 6 has a nice garage conversion.
i wonder if anyone has tried covering some containers over with a few feet of dirt to keep temperature down like they do in the Southwest USA.?

If you pick up some of the more upmarket free magazines (the ones with only Thai language articles) that are usually found in coffee shops and restaurant, you can find a firm advertising such services. Typically for an up-and-coming firm in Thailand in the year 2016, contact details are limited to a mobile phone number, with no sniff of an email address or website to be found!
