Well, how safe is HH. Crimes against person and or porperty. Should one have those bars on the home and an alarm. the only bars I like are the ones wih beer and girls???/ Who has bars on theri windows and lives in HH.....Phuket seems more safe or am I just getting the wrong impression

I'd say that crimes against the person are few and far between in HH. They do happen, but most usually resulting from some drunken misunderstanding. The Thais are generally very tolerant of us.
As far as security for a house is concerned, the Thais build them for themselves with bars on the windows etc, so ask yourself why. I'm not aware of any statistics on break-ins here.

I have never heard of a break in in four years in Hua Hin. In Pattaya it was a weekly occurence that someone I knew had had a break in. I have heard faily recently of a hotel break in.

Best to keep on the safe side though. Most house to have some kinf of bars or grills fitted to there windows. This will deter the casual chancer but very easy for someone determined to get in.

The other thing to be aware of is that (i think I have this correct) empty properties have a greater chance of being burgled than occupied ones. You should be OK going out to the shops but leaving the place for weeks may be a problem. I believe the crime is different under Thai Law.

firstly we ain't talking P-Town.....I expect the frang thiefs outnumber the Thais in the shite hole!

One should be concerned about taking a holiday.....How reliable are the housekeepers as watch dogs?????///

It depeds about location.Near by another houses and lights ,guards,busy area or not.
If you leave your home for more than 2 daysor even less let somebody turn on the lights maybe sleep in it-if you trust anybody of course.
Never leave a house anywhere in the world without some back up.

YOu cannot leave you home in HH for a holiday without worring about breakings. NO GOOD.....sounds like HH has a crime problem! What say you whom live tghere. Save to take off for a few days?????/

After been working with safety and security for several years.
My conclutions is, if I have to vote for a city that is safe and secure.
My vote would go to Hua Hin.

I bought a house there and, and have left the house for months, and there
is now sign of burglars. The first couples of months after I left HH, the house was empty. After a while I rented the house out.
Can't say that I feel better because of that.

There is a lot of developments that offers 24/7 security for your peace of mind. Does it gives people peace of mind ? I don't think so.

To me this is overkill, we're talking about HH.
The king lives here, the police is visual.

In Hua Hin you relax, you don't worry about safety or security.

There is only one thing that is dangerous in HH and that is the cars , when you cross Phetchasem.

Good news, If a few residents would confim that I would feel better about my upcopmming visit to look for a house. I'm in the 12-16 millioon Baht range so gate with security sounds good.

If you plan to spend that amount of money, you can choose from the upper level of developments. What ever you choose you should bee safe and secure.

I've been tols that there is really good security, and low association fee's for houses in that relm of money. I'm overbuying for two, me and my Suring Darling, but I will be facing that much in capital gain from my primary residence in the U.S. that I must put into a house givinn the limits of 401K a investments to avoid Capital Gain tax. funny that I can furnish, buy a car and do a few other thinngs whilst I buy a house oversease but not have gthe same wide area to spend capital gains without paying taxes..... I know it varies from coutry to country and my U.S. tax guy says that thailand reinvestments offer very wide options to avoid capital gain! So I'm not just here about a beautiful girl 1/3 my age, nor about the endless supply of quality boom, cheap beer or what ever. Shite, Thailand is on par with the Phillipines for tax shelter investments...

All that being said I am a great fan of Phuket but there is too much action there and we are far closer to the Darling home (village) and far away from all my old haunts.......

I'll be at the U.S. Embassy in a few weeks and they will be advising me on buying a home!

HH is safe, no need for bars on the windows just put good locks on the inside. in 15 months i know one break in and that was because the door was open and no one home.

The bars here tend to be too thin anyway, plus the fixing screws are revealed.
However, if someone really wanted to get in your house they'd simply lift off a few roof tiles and pop down the access panel in the toilet.

IMO opinion, HH is very safe, where I live there's been one break-in reported in seven years, and it's a large area.
