Well done everyone who has gotten involved with the orphanage, especially Barry who really does have a heart of gold.
I will be donating my time and effort to help Barry put this day together and also will be wrapping up a number of presents to put under ther christmas tree for the kids.
Q, Barry can you give some sort of idea of what presents to get?
I also believe there are some adults who run the orphanage on a day to day basis, maybe something should be got for them also?

Thanks a lot PT for the offer of help - very much appreciated.
As for the presents - there are 26 kids aged between 3 and 17 - boys and girls.
We were thinking of individual present packages to the value of around 150-200 baht each.
If several people can donate just 1 or 2 presents like this, we would be there in no time - we would even collect the parcels or they can be left at our restaurant in town.
Thanks a million for all the help offered so far

That's brilliant Terry - thanks a lot for that
That will certainly make a few of the boys very happy
Also many thanks to Georgy, who was here from China for a few days last week.
Georgy came to our restaurant and donated a generous 2000 baht for the cause!!
(And another big personal thank you to Georgy for bringing me a yoghurt-making machine all the way from China!!!)
Thanks very much again to all who have contribued so far.
It looks like it will be a great Christmas for the kids!!

Just a thought for the older 16-17 year olds, as difficult shopping for them. Maybe a used cell phone with a 100-200 pre-paid fill would make their day. I would think a used, no frills phone could be found for less than 500. Pete

The mind boggles!
Well, most important that the children will have happy eyes.
Barry: please let us participate with some pictures.
Thank you to all who will participate to make the event a success and lets hope that there will be even more donations/personal support until then.

I was driving into town last week when I got a call from a Scandinavian gentleman named Magnus.
He said he was at our restaurant/office and wanted to help with the children's Christmas party.
Because I wasn't there, he was going to come to Mermaid Marina to see me.
In the end, we agreed to meet me in the Villa car park.
When he saw me there, he came over and said how delighted he was with what we were doing for the orphanage, handed me a contribution and then left immediately.
Only then did I look at what he had given me: I found 25 crispy new 1000 baht notes in my hand - a gift of 25,000 baht from a complete stranger.
Although not a HHAD member, he had read this thread and wanted to help.
Mr. Magnus, whoever you are and I would really like to know who you are, thank you very much from the bottom of all our hearts for this amazingly generous gesture!!!

Hi Barry
I'ts often the generosity of complete strangers that is the most humbling.... this man will receive much merit for his compassion towards the kids.

I'm sure we can manage a couple of pressies also, need to do the shopping for our rugrats soon anyway.
C'mon folks its only a couple of baht, imagine the potential if everyone gave just a little.

Hi Buksida
Is it possible for my last message to remain on the
latest topics" of the front page for a few days to maximise the exposure or Mercy House... I doubt it will be found easily if relegated to lifestyle and Family... please advise
