Any new fitness/gym/sport centres in Hua Hin

Post by Darius31 »

Hi,

Since this is my first post I'll take the opportunity to express my happiness for the existence of this forum with so much usefull information!

I'm going to be in Hua Hin for the coming year, work related, and I was looking for a nice affordable gym. I found a few but I was hoping to find better. The ones I found are:

The small gym on soi 94, It's cheap but the place needs maintenance. I also wouldn't dare to step on the treadmills before I break them.

The @letic in Market Village, nice but for Thai understanding really expensive. It's even more than the fitness first I used to go in my home country.

The boxing place at Grand Plaza, but nobody could give me information on it.

So these are the three I've found untill now. If anyone knows other places that are better options please let me know. What I'm looking for is a gym with good solid equipment, dumbells that go at least up to 40kg and enough good treadmills.

Thanks!!

BTW, I either didn't see or couldn't find a sports section (practising sports, not watching ) on the forum, therefore i posted it in the lifestyle section

There's one at Sport Villa which is a little further south on Petchkasem Road from soi 94. Havn't used it myself, but have heard that it's pretty reasonable and had a makeover fairly recently.

You could try the Hilton. Expensive but good equipment.
When was the last time you were at Soi 94? This place changed owner a few weeks ago and his plan is to bring everything to higher standards.

Well I was there during my previous visit in Hua Hin, three months ago. But I'll pay it another visit then.

Thanks for the update!

I agree, that's more the "hangout gym" than actually a real workout gym

If cost is not a problem try the Intercontinental Hotel, its a small gym but very high tech equipment, rates depend on how long you join for, but you also get to use the pool as a member. Ask for Khun Finn in the Spa.

Closest I could get to a gym was Athletic Fitness at Hua Hin 88 rd. 10 min walking distance from Centara, 15 min from Hilton. This fitness center had ONE half good squat rack, but yes, you can do squats, lounges, bent-over rows, etc. (I could not locate any other places with either a barbell or squat rack in Hua Hin!). No proper flooring for deadliftig. Anyway, they had most isolation-training machines one would expect (Technogym and Cybex brand). They also had a cable jungle, adjustable cable crossover, a smithmachine, and one bench for benchpressing. Dumbbells only went up to 26 kg... I sent the manager an email and suggested some improvements.

Highly recommend Powerfit-102. Located on Soi 102 after the Train Tracks and on the left. Dean and Cate are first class in their fields. He has background in martial arts and body building.

i would also recommend the 6 week bootcamp that they run at powerfit 102..if you want to get fit and lose some weight and you can't motivate yourself at the gym by yourself, join one of these classes, they are great fun and really strip the weight off at the same time.

@lectic has been done on the cheap which is a shame as good size and good location, the changing rooms are pretty dismal and only one toilet in the mans changing room so don't get caught short, very bad amateur layout of machinery no zones as in legs / shoulders etc. and a lack of machines means that more than 3 or 4 people training and you can be queuing up. Only just got aircons !! This could have easily been the best gym by far in Hua Hin but unfortunately not the case and definitely way overpriced as it stands now. Power fit 102 is much more professional and run by a proper fitness instructor but tends to cater a bit more for cardio than weights. A bit small but fantastic value for money is the gym along the canal road just passed the Dizzy Dolphin bar 5,500 Baht a year (join and get 13 months special offer) small and limited machinery but good machinery and always tends to be very quiet so no queuing. I think that Hua Hin is big enough now for a major gym group to come in and I think as it stands now would clean up.
