Mango Trees

Post by PeteC »

The 3 we have remaining are in full flower, like they are every November. Then......each year for the past four the flowers are ravaged by rain and wind, and we end up with about 6 mangos instead of 100. :( I sit here and await the approaching storm expected to arrive tonight/tomorrow! :banghead: :banghead: I imagine trees in HH are in bloom also, unless last weeks storm already did them in. Pete

Oh common Pete , out of the blues. Look it at it on the bright side. At least your ducks must be doing ok with all this rain.

Mango trees grow up into huge monstrous trees....ultimately. But it doesn't stop the 'stary-eyed' Thais from planting them in their garden on the 60 TW plot estate with reckless abandon (in the same fashion they were used to in the village) with no heed as to how big they will get in the future.............and conflict with the electricity and Internet wires that are inevitably above such trees when they get the option of planting trees or the future effects on the wires.....FFS. This is before the neigbours start getting upset about the rain shower of sticky stuff that destroys everything...including your tolerant neighbour's sense of humour etc.

The other thing I would like to bring up is that mango and pineapple etc is so cheap to buy that it is hardly a victory that you grow them in your garden to get free fruits.......c'mon.... :?

Guess old habits die hard.......seems so.

Just removed two humongous mango trees from my garden. Both were probably over 50 years old with minimal fruit but maximum ants nesting in the leaves and foraging a good distance in every direction......you took you life in your hands if you approached the trees.
The bluddy leaves were always falling in the swimming pool affecting the PH and chemistry as well as making the cleaning of the pool a nightmare......love the fruit...love the tree in someone else's garden.....but I'm pleased to be rid of them from mine.

We've been spared....so far. :D The rains since last post not enough to knock off flowers. Now I have every honey bee within 100 miles feeding off of them. I hear all the above, but it's still fun to grow them if the trees are in places that don't damage cars, walkways etc., with their sticky sap. If we can survive any lurking insects we should have a good crop to give away. Pete

Mango trees' ants'nesting is full of Ant larvaes. You can simple made "Yum ant larvaes" just by clearing the matured ants out and leave with only ant larvaes and just add mints leaves, chille , lemon grass , lemon juices and have it with beer or thai's whisky.
