Groceries home delivery

Post by moater »

Only having a scooter here makes it pretty hard to transport our week worth of groceries back to the house, so I find myself in the supermarket way too often. Does any grocery shop in hua hin offer (hopefully free) deliveries? If not, any ideas?

Hua Hin Butler will deliver pretty much anything... not free though, there is a delivery charge... google them.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

You may find that hiring a tuk tuk will be no more than the delivery charge and you can buy exactly what you need at whatever is your local grocery store.

Unless you live out in the boondawgs going shopping two or three times a week should be a pleasure rather than a burden.

Perhaps a bigger scooter and/or top box! Here in the UK I have a large top box that clips on and off that holds 3 carrier bags plus one under the seat. Wife can hold 2 begs + .

I have to admit that when Makro first opened I did a UK sized shop and had to get a tuk tuk to follow me home. 555!

Must say I tend to agree with that, especially for fresh food. But if you do prefer a big weekly shop then a TukTuk or taxi is probably the easiest and cheapest option.

By theway - a year or so back Tesco Lotus announced their first Thailand online ordering and home delivery service which was to be in selected areas of Bangkok, including Chang Wattana. Not heard anything since about whether it has been successful.

My standard practice, on the rare occasions I'm buying a big item/a lot of items, is to take the bike to, ex, Market Village, then negotiate a price for a tuktuk to take me home. Once I've been given the price I ask them if that includes coming back as well (so I can collect my bike and ride it home), they usually say yes or only add another 50bt onto the price - given that they'd be coming back to the rank anyway.

I bought a heavy item at MV, hired a t-t and said, follow me, I did take his number, just in case he had ideas.

Well, thanks for all the advice. The tuktuks want 200 for a 5 min ride (they even have a sign up with prices). I got them down to 150, but still feel like it's a bad deal. It's not objectively expensive, mind you, it's just the principle. In bkk I could go 15+ km (if traffic allows) in a proper taxi with a/c for 150.

I did find an alternative though. I got one of these huge checkered bags. I throw all my grocery bags inside, trying not to squish anything important, stuff it between the handlebar and the seat, and carefully make the ride home. It can hold around 6-8 full bags, which is good enough for me.

Yay.

And in Samui the same 5-minute journey would cast you 400bt. In central London, close to 1000bt.
On the flip side, I'm sure there are parts of the world where 150 bt for 15km would seem extortionate.

I really don't understand people who refuse to pay tuk uk prices in Hua Hin based on what the prices are elsewhere in the country.

Totally off topic but that reminds me of the time I bought one of those huge terracotta bowls for fish and plants. A shop out north a bit on Petkhasem. Asked them to get me a taxi/pickup home with the bowl. A motorcyke taxi guy rocked up - manages to get the huge bowl on the Honda Wave in front of him and tells me to hop on the back.
No way - I got a seperate bike home - and despite careful instructions spent quite a long time wondering where the hell my fish bowl had got to!
I'd almost given up on it when it eventually arrived. The driver had got lost on Poolsuk.

Hi,
Does anyone have any up to date info on home delivery services? Searched google but no luck. Hopefully gourmet market or villa now do it in HH

The Villa Market at the south end of town definitely delivers locally. However, suggest you check prior to doing a shopping that the delivery guy is available,he seems to flit backwards and forwards between the 2 stores. They have never charged for delivery, and the driver is happy to assist with your bags into your home.
