Having a horrible time with getting a small centrifugal pump to work. It is brand new but acting just like the old one we thought was broken.
It turns on but nothing comes out.
The pump is being fed from a typical overhead water tank so there is a lot of pressure of water going in. (Could this be the problem?) When the pump is off and I open the inflow valve, the water flows through it freely. As soon as the pump is turned on .. .the water stops.
We need this pump to water the garden as the water pressure from the overhead storage tank is not strong enough to push water through the watering pipes.
Just thinking that maybe this kind of pump will only work when sucking water from a pond?
Open to any suggestions here!

Sounds stupid.
If you've got a high head feed (tank) it should work.
Got it connected correctly?
Inlet is to the centre and the outlet is on the volute.................

What is driving it, and in which direction is it rotating?

Re: small centrifugal pump wont work
Son of a gun ...you are right about having it hooked up wrong. . .but let me get a clearer picture.
One end of the pump is circular. The hole at the top of this circular part has the small brass screw thingy (excuse the technical language here) right next to it for priming. In the center of the circular part, below this is the other hole. So if I reverse them . .I should be good to go.
The directions are all in Thai of course and so no help.
Obviously working with water pumps is not my strong suit.
Thanks for the help

As advised by Nereus the centre axis of the impeller housing is the inlet ( "circular part " ) and the outlet will be on the outside of the impeller housing. Hope you haven't thrown the old pump away if in fact it was only incorrectly plumbed.Terry wrote:Sounds stupid.

I've got many of these things at the Lodge - also helps that I studied fluid mechanics at uni, designing pumping stations for many years............in my past life

My apologies Terry! I must have had a seniors moment! I recalled Nereus had an extensive background with pumping equipment and was thinking about that when responding, My bad!Terry wrote:Not to worryNereus wrote:.......Wasn't me! Big fisherman got it right first up.

Not needed Mr. Bluesky - just glad to help.
Also note that, that old bugger Nereus DOES know a thing or two - having just helped me with another technical problem.
So by a huge deduction that make at least 3 of us 'seniors; here..............
