does anyone know where we can purchase traditional bird cages either in wood or metal?

Try 'Pet Land' on the left going north on Petchkasem on the corner of Soi 16. They have various cages for dogs, cats and the like. Not sure about bird cages but worth a try.

Re: Bird cages
Are you buying a bird cage just for decoration, or to keep a bird?
The reason I'm asking the question is because some of the birds for sale in Thailand have been captured from the wild. It's quite pitiful to see these lovely creatures trying to fly in a small cage when they can see their friends flying freely in the wild. If it's for a home-bred budgie, I'll forgive you.

There is a good pet store at Mackro.
Re: Bird cages
It's a shame to see these birds in small cages, when they are meant to-fly, I feed them every day and have great enjoyment just watching them, which is far better than keeping them in cages, it's just not right.
Re: Bird cages
There is a pet bird shop at Pae Mai by the market, at the start of the khlong road. They probably have cages for the birds they sell. Don't know if they're traditional style though.

Re: Bird cages
I have a bird bath outside my office window. They start yelling at me when the water's too low. It's an absolute delight to see the variety of birds queueing up for an evening bath.
Whoops. Going off topic here....

Hi all
my wife wants 3 different sizes of cage to convert into hanging lamps, the ones she has seen in lighting stores do not appeal to her.

Re: Bird cages
So after all that, this thread is not about caging birds but using bird cages for another use. Shame it wasn't made clear at the start and we wouldn't have had the ensuing debate on the rights and wrongs!

What a great idea, B6PTW!
No worries about us getting the wrong end of the stick. It gave us bird-lovers the chance to have a bit of a rant. Would love to see pics of the finished results if you manage to find what you want. I agree with you about not finding what you want with regards to lampshades in Thailand. I think they prefer horrible, naked fluorescent tubes.

Re: Bird cages
The OP never said it was about caging birds, he just wanted a bird cage so don't blame the OP for you reading more into it.
Op, Nice idea

Re: Bird cages
Ok. Myself like everyone else assumed.... making an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'.
However, if I asked where I can get a toilet (as a novelty for growing flowers), I would guess people would assume that I wanted it for a more practical use.
It's all down to interpretation and the more explanatory then the interpretation becomes easier.

Re: Bird cages
Why is any interpretation necessary..? The OP simply asked where he might find bird cages - so simple - why should people need to justify themselves..? That would only spoil the fun for the habitual nay sayers and detractors who are always lurking to pounce with their egotistical assumptions and authoritarianism..
