Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Hi
Can anyone advise where a UV filter could be purchased in Hu Hin suitable for use in a koi carp pond - keeping the water clear and algae away.
I tried an aquarium shop along the railway without success.
thanks
Kilbirnie

Hi Kilbirnie,
I've been on the lookout for a UV filter for quite a while now. I've even been to a few shops in Bangkok, not much luck, can't even find one shop that can order me one.
My brother is coming out in March and he said he'll bring one with him, 'till then it's carry on puming it out once a week, a good scrub, refill and repeat the process until March.

There's a supplier in Nonthaburi. Imports kit from a German company.
Just tried to post the URL here but got bombed out because I have less than 10 posts
I sent an email to HHAD with the info and asked them to forward to you both

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Restating this old thread.
I use the jacuzzi next to my pool as a fish pond, but recently it has started looking more like thick pea soup! I need an external filter system, possibly with UV.
Does anyone know somewhere in Hua hin where I can get one please?

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
I had a UV filter on mine for a while. I couldn't find one in Hua Hin so I got it at a store in Bangkok that specializes in supplies for ponds and aquariums. It was within easy walking distance from the Kamphaeng Phet MRT stop (near Chat Chai Market). Sorry that's all I can remember about it but maybe you can find it on the internet. It was an area that had several such shops together that sell supplies and fish. You can also get them in Chat Chai Market itself in the fish and aquarium area as I found out later.

I got two UV filters in my koi pond. I'll ask the guy i bought the house from tomorrow where he got them from.
Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Thanks, the fish seem to be thriving, but I only see them when I feed them and as for the crayfish.......they could be 1 kg each and I wouldn't know

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
I bought 2 big suckers that eat the algae I think, or at least that is what the lady at the shop said they would do and she also sold us some liquid that you add to the pond that kills the green stuff floating on top of the water. I got them both at the same time and when we added the liquid the next day the water was very clear and we have not had a problem since. We got the stuff and the fish at the shop that sells aquariums and fish on the railway road.NOKYAI wrote:Thanks, the fish seem to be thriving, but I only see them when I feed them and as for the crayfish.......they could be 1 kg each and I wouldn't know

We had two or three of those sucker fish as well and we did add that liquid to our pond a couple of times in addition to having the UV filter and a biologic filter. All but the UV filter enabled us to see the fish through semi clear water, but adding the UV filter made the water so clear that you wanted to touch it to see if it was really there...

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Okay so i just got a replacement 55W Boyu UV filter. And two big containers of green stuff (adds good bacteria I think).
There is a Koi shop business here in Hua Hin, but he is expensive, he quoted around 10'500 for the complete uv filter. Then i found another guy here in Hua Hin, he got me a unit from Bangkok for around 6'000bht.
We also have some of those big sucker fish, I never seen it/them myself but my wife says its huge.
Our water is pretty green but then our filters were dirty when I got the place. I think perhaps we have too much sun on our pond. We got some plants in pots in there now doing ok.
If you PM me your number I will pass it on to the guy about the UV filter. He is a falang.

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
Anyone got any reliable links for online suppliers of pumps, UV filters etc? The bio filter I can make myself but I'd like a pump running on solar, gravity feeding back into the pond.

Re: Garden Fish pond - UV Filter
I don't know about on-line, but the most common to be found in shops here for home use is named SONIC. Yes, they're made in China but very reliable in my experience if cleaned periodically. We've had one or more running 24/7 for over a year and no problems yet. A variety of sizes/power costing from about 350 to 800 Baht. I think they may be used more in aquariums than in small home fish ponds, but they are good in small ponds as well for decorative purposes and to introduce oxygen to the water. Pete
