No direct link to teaching, but yesterday I went to Huahin and was stopped by the police, had to show my driver license (riding a big bike).
Nearly every time I go to Huahin, I have a police check.
I have lived in Prachuap city for 6 months, never had one, and in the last years living in Bangsaen or Sattahip, very few police checks.
So, I would say that police is particularly active in Huahin...

Nice offer. Thank you.

May I ask, what establishment does your friend teach at now or taught at before? How long has he/she been a teacher and how many years experience does he/she have teaching non native speakers?

I would like to give free English lessons but I'd still need a work permit.
But I'm not bored or rich enough to give out for free!

Hi mikosan, What is your nationality? 'm probably can help you with this as I'm Thai, and spoken both Thai and English. I guess if you would like to learn Thai just to communicate with the local people, I think we can make friend and exchange your language with my Thai. (No cost!!) Is that deal?

I love to have lots of foreigner friend if you don't mind.

Cheers!!

Hi Pacman, does your offer still stand? I would sincerely like to join you and learn Thai in a more formal way than have been over the last few months.

I attend classes at Sirada, just finished year 2 and starting year 3. I can read and write Thai fluently, although I mis-spell Thai words frequently, still, due to the multiple consonants and other anomalies in the written Thai language. I attend classes twice a week, 2 hours each day, cost is 3,100 bt for each 20 hour session (5 weeks). I also have our teacher give my wife and me a 2 hour private lesson every Saturday (not affiliated with the school). The Saturday session costs 500 bt each week. I can't say enough good about the school, Sirada, thier Teaching staff are wonderful people and this is a great way to learn the language, reading, writing, speaking and listening. I am very happy with the results and plan to continue my language studies with them indefinitely. ผมพูดพาษาไทยดีมาก

My daughter is on an ED visa and is with Sirada. Cannot fault the school. However, I think you'll find that lessons are now 4 days X 2 hours to comply with immigration rules of 400 hours in the year recently updated from 200 hours.
Maybe you're not on an ED visa and therefore do not need to comply with immigration rules. If so, then I apologise.

You are correct HHTel, I am not on an ED visa, none of the 5 students in my class are on ED visa and our classes are still only 2 days per week, 2 hours per day, 20 hours total per class session, then a test. This is followed by a week off from school, then we start the next 20 hour session. I've followed some of the discussions at the school about the additional hours now required for the ED visa, I don't recall all the details but I think these students get the extra hours by enrolling in a separate, simultaneous 20 hour speaking class, so they can get the extra 2 days per week to meet the new annual requirements. I'm glad this doesn't apply to me because I find the amount of new vocabulary words, reading and writing assignments associated with the 2 days per week is quite challenging, I can't imagine trying to accomplish twice as much in a week. We do a considerable amount of speaking Thai in class, but still, my weak spot is I don't get enough speaking practice with native Thai speakers, outside of class, so I would probably benefit from the extra hours associated with a speaking class.
