Stop Smoking?

Post by PeteC »

Does anyone out there have any tips that really work that you've done first hand? Besides the OTC things such as gum and patches?

I'm looking for a miracle, as I think that is what it is going to take, or an induced coma for about 6 months, or death. Thanks. Pete

I found a really good dose of flu did it for me. 2 weeks of pleading for death and the urges had all gone. I can thoroughly recommend it.

The first step to quitting is wanting to quit.

The second step is educating yourself about your addiction.

The third step is the quit.

www.whyquit.com is an educational web site which answers many of step 2s questions.

Hi Bas, can you tell us where to find Wat Tam Krabok as I'd be willing to try their detox. I've been trying for years to quit and the cheap cigs in LOS makes it even harder. :cuss:

All the owners of the large tobacco companies do not smoke. You are being taken for a ride. The biggest regret of my life is smoking. Read this:

My wife suffered a nervous breakdown 12 years ago (fully recovered now). During the breakdown she started smoking again, and because of her illness the doctors advised that she would never be able give up smoking again.

4 weeks 9hours and 42 minutes ago she managed to give through sheer determination (and a lot caramel toffees), and is still going strong. She is now off the toffees as well, and is really determined to stay off the cigs. After so long, I don't see why she shouldn't succeed

So you've tried the nicotine chewing gum, prcscct? That did the trick for me. Used to smoke three packs in a drinking night 10 years ago.

I think you were meant to chew it, not smoke it - still, whatever works for you.

She will succeed as long as she "NEVER TAKES ANOTHER PUFF".

It doesn't matter how long you have quit 4 weeks or 4 years, relapse is just around the corner with one puff.

So many people have relapsed because they thought they could handle one puff even years after giving up. NOT TRUE, once an addict always an addict.

She must always remember NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF.

I'm here in HK now and picking up some Nicoderm patches while here BG. If LOS has them, I've never seen them, only gum. Anyway, once in hand will set target date, probably around New Years. During the 2 hours stuck in S'bumi this morning, and then the 4 hours on the flight/immigration/transport to city, it really didn't bother me too much and..I FELT better. I am prime to do this and make it work. Pete

BB, good luck to your wife, tell here we're cheering for her! :D

If you want another reason to give up smoking, I’ve just been reading that tobacco contains small amounts of Pollonium-210, the same dodgy radioactive substance used to poison ex-KGB agents in London sushi bars.
