Hospital in Hua Hin

Post by keesvalk »

which hospital is generally considered to be the best in HH or do people usually go to
Bangkok (like Bumrungrad) for medical care ?.

When living in Indonesia one usually gets out of the country when any medical care
is required because doctors in Indonesia have no idea what they are doing except
getting your money.

It depends on what you want. Bangkok Private Hospital is generally considered very good by most people while the other private one San Paulo seems to have a varied reputation. Both, being private are fairly expensive compared to the third option, Hua Hin Government hospital. Most people I know that have used it (including myself) are satisfied with the government hospital services and you can pay a small fee to get faster service. However, I've found that many specialties are not represented by any of the hospitals here and I frequently have to go to Bangkok for those services. Another option that many say is better than the three in Hua Hin (private hospital but lower prices) is Petcharat Hospital located in Petchaburi about 45 minutes drive north of Hua Hin.

I've personally used them all as well as three in Bangkok. I have had both good and not so good experiences at all of the ones in (or near) Hua Hin, but from my experience weighing price, service, and good vs bad service, my choice would be.

1. Hua Hin government Hospital
2. Petcharat in Petchaburi
3. Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin
4. San Paulo

Most people I know who are rich or have insurance go to Bumrungrad in Bangkok for non emergency health care. I did for a couple of years but found it too expensive so I now go to Saint Louis Hospital when in Bangkok. It's a very good private non-profit hospital run by the Catholic church and is about 50% of the price of Bumrungrad for the same services.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I have been to all of the above as well except Petcharat. I agree completely with your analysis. If they can do your procedure Hua Hin Government Hospital isn't perfect but the best of the lot.

Not really lomu, I mentioned six hospitals and while I rated them based on the four in (or near) Hua Hin, I've had bad (from ripoffs to some very bad could have resulted in death) experiences at four of the six I mentioned. The only two I mentioned that I have used and had no complaints were Hua Hin Government hospital and Saint Louis in Bangkok. SP nearly killed me with a diagnosis that was so wrong that what was prescribed made me worse and even the one just north in Petchaburi made a serious mistake that made me think I had a problem that could kill me at any time and they were wrong upon examination at all other hospitals since (had to be mixed up test results with another patient, no other explanation... God help the other guy who thinks he is fine and has a possibly fatal problem).

I think if you talk to a few older people who have used hospitals here more you'll find more horror stories than you want to think about. You're still young enough to probably not have had to use them much. In my experience, it's a roll of the dice any time you go to a hospital here. That's why I've always preferred clinics or private practice doctors (which are hard to find in Thailand) and will go away soon in the U.S. due to the new health care law. I made many more visits to the International Polyclinic than all hospitals here until it closed and never had a problem there. I think hospitals just run too many people through and are not focused enough on each case.

I know he was. I was just saying I am not surprised at all with Old Man's friend's experiences, considering my own over the last ten years.

Ok sorry, but still worrying that you have had so many bad experiences at the selection of hospitals here in Thailand.

Some people are just unlucky, I guess... maybe it happens at hospitals everywhere, but the only similar bad medical experience I ever had outside Thailand was not in a hospital, but in the office of an oral surgeon... and I've used more than one hospital in the middle east, one in Italy, one in Germany and many in the U.S.

We've lived here 20 months, and have suffered from mis-diagnosis 3 times, despite presenting local hospitals with documentation from the UK stating what the problem was :? Consequences could have been dire, including amputation.

Many Thai doctors consider themselves hi-so, so must know best.

My rating based on 8 years of stroke related treatment

Bumrungrad.........10/10
Petcharat...........10/10
Ram (Khon Kaen)..10/10
San Paulo.............2/10
Bangkok Hospital....1/10

Petcharat and Ram both contacted my doctor in HH and the Bumrungrad to seek advice based on my medical history

SP and BKH thought they new best (Docs - HiSos) and both mis-diagnosed twice
