Yes, they sell them everywhere. Makro, Tesco Lotus, G-Mart and Villa Market.

I use Allopurinol, which is quite expensive in Europe, but here I get a generica (Alloric) for 2 Baht per 100mg tablet.
Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
Mate had a problem when he was here. Managed to get colchicine .6mg over the counter. The pharmacy on soi 102 stocks them, I think about 30 baht for 10 ( the second pharmacy 600 m west of railway crossing on lhs ) They also stock generic allopurinol in 100 and 300 mg for longer term Uric acid management.

Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
I know this isn't particularly helpful for gout-sufferers here, but perhaps something to bear in mind for the future if you have a painful gout attack and can get hold of a bag or two... Fresh cherries are supposed to be very effective in reducing gout symptoms. Anecdotal evidence perhaps, but I'd read several articles about cherries helping to relieve the pain so suggested them to several suffering but sceptical friends, and they all reported back that they definitely worked (perhaps in conjunction with their meds?). Has to be fresh cherries, not cherry juice.
Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
Colchicine available over the counter from the best??? pharmacy in Hua Hin opposite the temple on Petkasem Rd a few doors down from the shopping Mall.
Checkout "How I cured My Gout" website for good info - much of which unknown by both Thai & western doctors.
Cherries ( all sorts but fresh black the best), lots of water, less beer definitely good.
Chicken - esp. THai chicken guts etc Not good. All offal bad.
Allupurinol NOT suitable for everyone.
Do the online research & be better informed than most doctors.
It's possible to get a cortisone or similar injection from local doctors/ hospitals which quickly helps very severe attacks.
Uric acid is Not the only factor- try alkalising your body fluids - mineral water, sodium Bicarb etc.
Gout hangs around & recurs- research and work out your own best diet/system- everyone's a bit different.
Cheers! & good luck!

the cherries need to be sour cherries. Enzymatic Therapy makes them in capsule form. you can order them through iherb.com.
apple cider vinegar with the "mother", Braggs or other brands, breaks down crystals in the joints and relieves pain. 2 tsps. acv with 1tsp honey in a cup of warm water 10 min. before meals. it takes about 40 days to begin to feel the results.
no sugar, white flour, white potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes, alcohol, fried foods, fast or packaged foods. cut back on animal products. drink 1 cup of water every hour that you're awake.
if you're interested in detoxing I can tell you how to do it. it simple but you need to be consistent.
I worked with an arthritic patient and in 6 months he came out of his wheel chair and walked without pain. it does require a commitment. I've had 20 yrs in the alternative health business and did nutritional counseling.

This is a pretty tough prescription to follow but it will work.
Very good advice indeed.
Also the side effects of this diet will only be positive.
I can't say the same for colchicine.

My Scottish FIL swears by cranberry juice, it seems to work for him, though I have no idea if it would work for anyone else.

Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
Used to get an occasional bout and did not want medication. I researched and found Korean Red Ginseng was supposed to help. It did, I took for a couple years, no gout. I did stop and have not had gout either though. Supposed to be Korean, not the other countries that have ginseng, and the red.

I've had quite a few Japanese friends over the years who had gout. Each and every one of them were told by the Doc it was because of too much sake. They cut down or stopped, and if it didn't go away completely, it wasn't as severe. So.....I guess booze plays a part. Pete

Re: Gout, Arthritis or something else?
Living in Hua Hin, getting any form of cherries (sweet or sour) is either difficult and/or expensive, so better to try some of the other non-medication remedies to see if they work.

I switch from Beer to Cider and that seems to stomp the gouthuahin4ever wrote:I have gout, but I never get any outbursts anymore. My "secret" is Granny Smith apples! Either eating one apple a day or drinking Granny Smith apple juice. According to my doctor this is the best way to avoid gout. There are some kind of substance(s) in the Granny Smith apples that work against the uric acid. I'm very pleased with this discovery since nothing is better than to be cured by something growing in the nature. AND it is healthy too
