In-grown Toe Nail

I am in pain and agony over an in-grown toe nail. Can anyone recommend a fast and good cure or a doctor who can do something quick before it turns into an infection? No - I don't want to go to the hospital to have the nail removed

^^^^^^ Yes, if you are in pain it is probably already infected. I had one removed at the Hua Hin Bangkok Hospital just after it opened. Although the Doctor did a good job, it cost some exorbitant amount, along with a bag full of anti-biotics, so I would not go there.

Try Hua HIn Hospital, at least you won`t get over charged.

It has taken up to now to grow a new nail, and you need to be careful that the new growth does not do the same thing.

I used to suffer badly from ingrowing toe nails, to the extent the hospital removed the roots from one of my more persistent nails.

In recent years a good chiropodist has been more than capable of keeping the problem at bay. Since moving to Thailand, my daughter (sorry, not for hire ) has successfully cared for my feet.

I would reckon a session with a good chiropodist would get you sorted (sorry, don't know one in Hua Hin). Pain relief may not be as instant as a nail removal, but you will be sorted within a couple days, and a lot quicker, pain wise (in the longer term) than having the nail removed.

A couple of years ago I had a foot problem and searched high and low for a chiropodist (podiatrist in U.S. terms) and literally could only find one in the entire country of Thailand. I guess people there don't have foot problems.

When I lived in Florida there was a podiatrist office seemingly on every corner so I was surprised at the difficulty of finding one in Thailand. The only one I could find was in a hospital in Bangkok. I can't remember which one but it was not Bangkok Hospital, Bumrungrad, or St. Louis as it was a hospital I had never been to before (or since).

There is a good girl who sits on Soi selekam in the afternoons, she sits behind a hoarding next to Raintree Spa opposite the Lucky laundry shop, she cured my toe nail problem, but I feel that your problem may need a more professional approach.
100 baht for manicure, 100 baht for pedicure, I don't know how much she charges for nail art.

My chiropodist here in the UK recently told me that having a nail removed doesn't guarantee that the regrowth won't ingrowas well. In fact that it is likely to. She just prised an ingroing section out and cut it off.
I think that is the preferred method now anyway - kind of taking slices off the affected sides of the nails, and in HH I'd try to find a decent pedicurist to do that and then take a course of Amoxycillin.
I've also heard that sliding a length of dental floss under the toe nail will help it to grow back normally, but haven't needed to try it.

Margaretcarnes info is spot on, i have been troubled with ingrowing big toe nails for years and I did undergo the procedure for the removal of one nail which grew back with the same problem and let me tell you if you ever have a big toe block injection it must be arguably one of the most painful injections there is.

OK so this I am interested in ! I can see how a false nail could correct the growth of a natural one. But I'm not clear about how long the false nail would last, and how it might affect a natural nail which has a fungal infection.
It takes at least a year for a big toe nail to fully re-grow. Longer when it is infected. So my question is - would a false nail need to be replaced every few weeks during the correction process - or would it be left on until the end of the re-growth? Cos that would result in a pretty odd looking and ridged nail.

The original nail just grows, so you should just cut the fake nail. At some point you just have your own nail back.
You must first ensure that the fungus is gone before you stick the nail on it. it takes about 6 months before you have a new nail.
