Procedure for Prescription Refills?

Post by RCer »

Good Day,

I take prescription meds every say. I brought a good quantity to allow time to sort out insurance and such.

In reading some of the posts (3 pages worth) here, I'm a bit confused.

It sounds like I can take the bottles with the label on it to the pharmacy for a refill. No need to get a written prescription from a Dr.

Am I correct?

On a side question. It sounds like HH hospital is a good place for quality care.

Am I correct on this?

I think it depends on the medication.

I take a few pills, and I simply go to the pharmacy and buy over the counter. There are, however some medications that they will not sell you. My wife was on a particular pill for which there was only one doctor, South of Bangkok permitted to prescribe/dispense the drug.

You are best going to a pharmacy in the first instance and asking.

Go to a hospital as a last resort. They can be outrageously expensive, and in one case, a hospital prescribed completely the wrong medication because they couldn't prescribe what my wife needed - they needed to make a sale. Rather than admit they weren't qualified, they made a complete mess of her treatment.

Don't leave it too long to find out - that's where we went wrong with my wife, and we accepted the wrong treatment when we realised one of her medications wasn't licenced in Thailand. I even tried the online Viagra type suppliers, who openly admitted, if it's not licenced, they can't provide.

One difficulty that I found is that some of medication is available here, but under a different name.

I have tried them all, and all of my family now use Hua Hin Hospital, and are happy with the treatment.

I always use G Supetmarket, who have done well for me. However, there is one on the lower half of Night Market road that many favour (on your right as you walk towards the railway).

^^ There are two pharmacies in that area of the night market street. The big one is also "G" (as in G supermarket). Also on Phetkasem nearby.

Fascino is substantially cheaper than Boots or Watsons, at least for what I buy. It's at Market Village.

The pharmacies at G Supermarkets have different prices. After starting on a new med, I checked the price at 3 of the Gs the next time I passed by. One strip was 50b at Soi 94 and Petch, 40b at the big one on Chomsin and 35b on the soi 88-94 connector.
