Can't Hear TV

Post by RCer »

I have severe tinitus. Hearing aids don't help. Is there a headset or something like it that I can wear while watching TV, so that I don't have to make it so loud my wife can't stand it?

Maybe something I can plug into the TV but not cause the speakers to be cut out?

I have a condition similar to yours. It was diagnosed as Nerve Damage Deafness as opposed to the much more common Conductive Hearing Loss. I was told over a period of ten years by two hospital consultants and my own GP that hearing aids would not work in my case. Fortunately for me an audiologist at the hospital took me aside and said he thought that hearing aids would help so with nothing to lose I gave it a go. Much to my surprise there was a dramatic improvement although not perfect. However like you TV was difficult, the hearing shop in Aberdeen then provided me with "in the ear"hearing aids complete with remote control and a device that connects to the TV. This enables me to listen to the TV and anyone else in the room can't hear a thing. It is a device called Surflink. My advice would be to get another hearing test and find the exact diagnosis for your condition. I believe a German guy has opened a hearing shop in HuaHin - he advertised in one of the free glossy magazines. But if all else fails there is always the sub titles facility on the TV. U.K. Costs were £3000 for hearing aids and £350 for the Surflink. The hearing specialist will need to visit your home to tune in the surf link. Hope this helps.

Philips makes a set of head phones that do what you are asking. There are about 1200-1500 baht and sold at Tesco, Power Buy, etc.
