Tri-focal Glasses

Post by RCer »

Are tri-focal glasses available in Thailand?

I've been told by Top Charoen I can only get bifocal. The problem with this is I cannot use my computer with the same glasses I watch TV and read.

Suggestions?

I've no idea, but I will say they are known as vari-focal in the UK.

I would suggest you try Dr Pirait just South of Market Village - he is a proper eye doctor, and will probably help you. He's not expensive. I'm sure if you do a search on his name, you will only find good reports.

I have "progressive" focal glasses. They take a little while to get used to, but I have no trouble using the one set for both computer, TV and driving. Got mine from Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok. They send them out for grinding, but you do need a reputable place to obtain the prescription. (Not Top Charoen)

As I said, Dr Pirait - as far as I and my family are concerned, 2nd to none in Hua Hin.

I agree with BB. Dr Pairat will give you a proper eye test, checking not only your visual acuity but also checking for other problems in the eyes. When I used him I got a prescription which I was able to use to order glasses from the UK (had enough crappy lenses from the likes of Top Charoen and other more expensive places in Thailand).

Didn't notice that. Correct spelling helps finding him in Google though. :)

I have varifocals but I also have a pair of single lens for the computer otherwise you may get a stiff neck from focussing on the bottom of your specs

Folks I appreciate the recommendation of Dr Pairat. I've seen his name here before.

But, my question was about tri-focal lenses and nothing else. So, are they available in Thailand?

I wear bi-focal lenses (vari-focal) and have never seen tri-focal offered in Thailand. It would probably be best to check with an eye specialist. However the bi-focal lenses that I wanted were also not available here and were imported from Germany and fitted to the frames by an optician in BKK so anything is possible

And I told you that i didn't know, but suggested somebody that might be able to help. I also gave you an alternate name that they may be known under.

Bi-focal glasses are not the same as vari-focals
Before I had my new eyes fitted a couple of years ago, I found both bi-focals and vari-focals to be widely available in Hua Hin but I've never see tri-focals there.

check with Time Optic 106/4 Petchasem rd. next to Top Charoen. avoid Top Charoen, they screwed up my prescription twice and avoid the dr. at Bangkok hospital he screwed up my prescription twice. Time optic got it right the first time and I can see clearly. why do you want tri-focals rather than multi-focals?
