Puerto is unusual. It's a beach break that handles BIG hollow waves. Like any big wave spot, it's a lot safer if you know the specifics of things like bottom conditions, current and how it breaks. Enjoy:

Big splash!

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/309 ... -the-pain/

18 metre wave could be worth the pain

It cost him a broken thighbone and three weeks in hospital, but big-wave surfer Justin Holland could pocket $20,000 for an 18-metre wipeout on WA's southwest coast.

The 39-year-old's harrowing ride at Cow Bombie last June, near Margaret River, is one of nine finalists for Wednesday night's Big Wave Award which encompasses the entire southern hemisphere.

Some remote Western Australia action today. I can't figure out how they got some of the footage, especially the first surfing segment ending at around 2 minutes something. As he comes out of the tube you can see the camera is not on the back of his board. The only other thing I can think of is that a drone is following him through the tube?   Pete

It's awards time. Here are the nominees.

Ride of the year.

Paddle Award (tow-in is safer and easier in BIG waves). There are some amazing drop-ins

"Oh! He ate s..." AKA the Wipe Out award.

He's holding a pole with a camera on a gimbal mount. Watch how the point of view changes with his arm movement. Can also see his grip on the pole in a couple shots.
