League 2 Season 2016-17

Post by Big Boy »

Well, it's only a couple of days to the start of the new season. The Green Army have their strongest squad for many years. Following consecutive failures in the the play offs, Derek Adams has put together a very strong squad for the new campaign with 13 (the last time I counted) new players being added to the already strong squad. The new squad even includes 2 international players.

OK, I'm sure he'll take on a couple of loanees, but this will be the first time for many seasons that they are not reliant upon loanees.

The team haven't been beaten during pre-season, and expectations are very high for the coming campaign. I haven't seen the bookmaker's odds, but I'd guess Plymouth Argyle Football Club will be amongst the favourites this season.

Roll on Saturday - Luton are always a tough test, and should be a good indication of what is to come.

Good luck to your boys for the new season,BB.
I think your biggest rivals will be Portsmouth,Doncaster,Leyton Orient and Cheltenham.

I see the Championship favourites,Newcastle United, suffered a disappointing start to their campaign last night. :alien:

Portsmouth will always be amongst the favourites because of their fantastic fan base. Cheltenham will be their because they look so pretty in their new kit :D

Not sure about Doncaster and Leyton Orient.

Let's get the season underway, and see what really happens.

Back to Earth with a THUMP.

6 wins and 3 draws out of 9 games during pre-season fade into insignificance. We lost by a whopping 3-0 at home to a 10 man Luton - this could be a long season.

Wow, what a transformation!!! :D

Beaten in the first 3 games - position 24/24. Memories of a couple of seasons ago came flashing back. A return to the dark days?

5 games later, Plymouth Argyle are 1/24 - long may it last. Mind you, a bit of a banana skin next week - local derby against Exeter.

Well guys, I've been afraid to tempt fate on this thread for a long time. Afraid that if I said anything, there would be a sudden drop in form. An amazing away form has all but secured escape from the wilderness of the 4th division of English football, where Plymouth Argyle have languished far too long after being totally stitched up by Japanese sugar daddies, and almost going out of business.

Just one point today against lowly Newport will secure 3rd division football. Plymouth could even lose if Luton fail to pick up 3 points in each of their remaining 4 games. The fat lady hasn't sung yet, but I'm sure she can feel a tune coming on. I think it's going to be a happy Easter in Plymouth today :D

Doncaster, Plymouth and Portsmouth are automatically promoted.

I'm pleased to report that Plymouth did it in style with a 6 - 1 thrashing of Newport :D

Congratulations BB - still might go up as champions! I'm personally pleased to see Pompey promoted as well. Both clubs with their town backgrounds and support deserve to be higher.
