The Poison Dwarf and his legacy :tosser: ..... Money, Money, Money (didn't ABBA do a song)? Actually, Silverstone was always a bitch to get to, but was always a great day out (well, weekend for me) - and one of only two Grand Prix I've been to.

"Brand F1" extract the urine on $ money, and it will hurt to see this circuit go - can fully understand the reasoning though (from Silverstone's side).

British Grand Prix Future Uncertain Beyond 2019 as Silverstone Activates Break Clause

The future of the British Grand Prix has been left uncertain after Silverstone's owner confirmed it has activated a break clause to cease hosting the race after 2019.

Silverstone has been home to the race every year since 1987.

However, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), which owns the circuit, says it cannot afford to host the race unless a new deal is agreed.

"We have reached the tipping point," said BRDC chairman John Grant.

"We can no longer let our passion for the sport rule our heads. We sustained losses of £2.8m in 2015 and £4.8m in 2016, and we expect to lose a similar amount this year.

"Our hope is that an agreement can still be reached, so that we can ensure a sustainable and financially viable future for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for many years to come."

Silverstone hosted the first Formula 1 race in 1950. It then shared hosting the British Grand Prix with Brands Hatch and Aintree before becoming its permanent home 30 years ago.

Unlike many other tracks on the F1 calendar, Silverstone receives no government backing.
- why?

Hamilton wins another and comes within one point of Vettel for the Championship lead. Some crazy tire problems on the last lap without which a few finishing positions could have been different.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/40624508

Pharvey had the best race in our pool with 15.5 points, and now at the halfway point in the season the top three are Pitsch, Pete and RZR.

Now THAT was a car race! Apart from one small bungle, the rest of it was first class racing. It has a lot to do with the circuit, and it would be criminal to exclude Silverstone.

What is it with Kimi Raikkonen? Is he just one cool customer or a bloody robot? He was sitting in the drivers room after the race and appeared to be half asleep! :thumb:

Di Resta to stand in for unwell Massa in Hungary

Paul di Resta will take part in his first Formula One Grand Prix for four years after being drafted in at Williams to replace an unwell Felipe Massa.

The Brazilian had reported feeling dizzy after FP2 on Friday, and was taken to the medical centre and then local hospital for precautionary checks. He was then examined by the FIA medical delegate on Saturday morning, who passed him fit to compete in FP3.

During the session however Massa's symptoms returned, prompting the Brazilian to call an early halt to his running.

Certainly seems that the handling of the Ferraris has the advantage over the raw power of the Mercs on this track. Might have paid me to do some research before I made my (early for once) picks!! :banghead:

Anywho, looking forward to sitting down with a cold beer and watching the race... LHG at work, couldn't be better!! :D

Actually I only just noticed both McLarens in the top 10! If either of their cars even finish a race it's a good day for that team.

Vettel wins and widens the gap to 14 points for the Championship.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/40768991

"Sebastian Vettel hung on to win a tense Hungarian Grand Prix despite problems with his Ferrari and a valiant attack by title rival Lewis Hamilton.

In a nail-biting finish, Vettel had his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen behind complaining that he could go faster but being used by the team as a buffer against Hamilton.

The Mercedes driver closed in but was unable to overcome the problems created by losing grip in the wake of another car.

And he let team-mate Valtteri Bottas past into third place, honouring a promise he made earlier in the race when the Finn moved aside to let Hamilton attack the Ferraris."

In our pool Pete had the best race with 13.5 points. The top three are now Pitsch, Pete and JJBones.

Were into the one month break now with Belgium on August 27. Good luck to all! :thumb: Pete
